I think covid has killed the hotel's restaurants and Prado coffee, they don't seem to have been opened for a while.

That building on the left with 'Depanneur' written vertically down the front looks like it was originally a nice building. It's shocking what they've done to it. 3 giant arches on the top floor have been holed in with cement. Hopefully, someone will come to the rescue and restore it to. Does anyone have know what it originally looked like?

Unfortunately, there isn’t much left to save I’m afraid. That whole row of commercial buildings (except for the white H&M building at the corner) is now own by a single promoter who will most probably ask for a demolition permit and build condos. This is in front of the Dominion Square and the Sun Life building, so the prestige of the location is through the roof.

So many ugly poorly maintained buildings aren't caused by urban decline or abandonment but by land speculation. Often if the owners destroy the buildings slowly over time, they will eventually face less resistance when they finally tear them down. And it saves on maintenance dollars and sometimes taxes due to lower assessments.

It's very much worth the effort and the owner shouldn't be allowed to destroy it simply because he's let it deteriorate to its present condition. You'd be amazed at what can be done with what looks like nothing. It can easily be made to look as beautiful as what's across the street. I've seen countless buildings in a similar state restored and the end result was astonishingly beautiful.

It being in front of Dominion Square is all the more reason for the city to put its foot down and demand restoration. Besides, buildings increase in value when they have heritage components. It's in the owner's interest to develop this site properly. One can even add more beauty and/or grandeur than existed in the first place. This Toronto proposal shows what can be accomplished with a little effort and foresight. Montreal deserves no less.

There's just one more thing we need : a good structuring transit system!

Great Toronto selection as always. That picture of the Drom Taberna to-go window is reminding me of one of the few positive outcomes from the pandemic - I think we may go on a "cocktail walk" and hit up a few spots after work today!
