^ I'm not sure how usage evolved over the years, but I think it was more common in the old days to refer to what we now call the Manitoba Legislative Building as the Provincial Parliament similar to how they still do it in Ontario. I'm not sure why exactly Manitoba we broke away from that terminology...

The Grosvenor project has a retro kind of look without being cartoonish... I like it.

The one at Stafford and McMillan is kind of busy, though. It's strange to see one building trying to look like it's three totally different buildings.

I love it! Way more interesting to look at than a monolith, and blends into the surrounding neighbourhood better too.

The rendering for the McMillan one isn't the greatest. I think it could turn out looking nice. Breaks it up a bit.

Yeah, I can see the advantage of making the McMillan building look like it's a few smaller ones. It will probably blend in a bit better and not stand out so much.

It will be interesting to see how these projects fare with the neighbourhood NIMBYs.

It seems that Osborne Village is generally not in favour of them lol, NIMBYs don't seem to be successful in blocking OV developments.

That Stafford and McMillan project drives me nuts. It faces the wrong way. The little fake old commercial building facades should be on the commercial street not the residential side. The sidewalk facing units are great but it looks like they are on the side of the building. Imagine if they had flipped it to have the commercial looking facades fronting the Stafford sidewalk with the retail at the ground floor. It could have been interesting (if you like fake old facades). This has urban, commercial looking facades that are supposed to be on the sidewalk, sitting beside houses, set back with a front yard and a fence. It makes no sense. Turn it 90 degrees.

I kind of like the Stafford McMillan project. I know I'm not going to like the white Hardie board or, how on the Stafford side, the grey brick doesn't wrap around into the balcony area and just abruptly ends. But I'll take it. I think its kind of cool how 911 McMillan is set back slightly and I'd love to see more projects use that colour of brick actually. The Stafford side is transparent and both retail units seem to open onto Stafford. Hopefully something actually fills them.

I get what you mean though. The second, third and fourth floor on the Stafford side are going to be pretty ugly. I hate how on Winnipeg streets like Academy and Stafford, half the street is just peoples' side fence. It's so ugly, and makes it feel like just a street to drive fast through. This is an improvement but I wish the upper floors facing Stafford used more expensive materials.

514 Wellington coming down this morning. Looks like the developer just waited until it became a safety hazard, and the City flipped to allowing demo.

"safety hazard". BS. There is no way that house deteriorated that quickly - other than the developer hiring a "friendly" inspector paid to say so.

Such a waste.

Actual words were "unsafe condition". But even with the neighbourhood designation, you knew they would try the demolition by neglect approach.

Reminds me of the old downtown Eaton's. It operated as a retail store until 1999 but by 2001 it was being characterized as pretty well a dilapidated pile on the verge of collapse. I mean, I'm not unhappy with the end result in that case, but this type of thing is not uncommon.
