Final figures for homicides in England and Wales for 2015 were released this week, numbers were up around 11% on 2014 from 517 to 573, but it's still one of the lowest rates in recent decades at 1.00/100,000 for England & Wales as a whole.

Also released were good for each local authorities, as these are small areas and the numbers of homicides in each one is often very low one guy going nuts and killing his wife and parents could send an area from the bottom of the list to the top for that year. So I've used an average for 2013, 2014 and 2015 to smooth out those odd events that might distort things.

City of London is way out at the top but it's an unusual area, only 8,000 people live there so 3 homicides in 3 years is enough to put it at the top of the list based on resident population, but on a typical weekday over 300,000 people work there.

In a 24-hour period there have been 3 murders, 4 more people shot and 1 more person stabbed.

I'm hoping the PD can get this under control but I think the problem is that they are severely understaffed.

SF is at 13 after a man was murdered in civic center last week. For some reason though, the SFPD has declined to release any details about the incident.

Do you know how many of those are in Las Vegas itself? Las Vegas PD covers an area of 2 million+ people.

Yup!

"Edmonton 2016 homicides at 19, more than Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg combined".
http://edmontonjournal.com/news/crim...nipeg-combined

Remember the Combined Total Population of Vancouver, Calgary, & Winnipeg's City Proper's is: 2,661,424!

Their are ZERO American Cities that large with less than 19 Murder's just throwing that out there, (We also have Montréal too which has less than 3 Murder's this year & the Island has 2 Million People).

I guess its safe to say that so far this year Edmonton is Canada's Murder Capital with a rate already over 2 Per 100,000. (Roughly around half the US Average
of 3.8 Per 100,000 & Over the Canadian Averages of 1.4 Per 100,000).

I'm confused as to what is even in Las Vegas boundaries and what is not. It's not very clear at all.

I thought the murders were 54 YTD but some people are reporting up to 62 YTD so I don't know.

Las Vegas: 60

Las Vegas has seen a more than 100% increase in murders from 2015 to this year.

Last year at this time there were 28 murders, this year there are 60.

SF is at 14 now, after a man was killed in the Tenderloin. Just like the last murder (which happened around the corner from this one, last week), the SFPD is declining to release details about any suspects or how the victim died.

edit:

Turns out that was actually murder number 15 for SF, and the victim in that one and the previous one were stabbed. I think the extra murder in the count is the skeletal remains that were found buried in the floor of a building in Pacific heights, a case which was previously described as "suspicious".

Yeah...I managed to figure it out a year or two ago, and it took way too long. City boundaries and police jurisdictions are all weird over there. And damn, that's a huge increase for Las Vegas. Hopefully it slows down.
