Once I return I will be in the process of moving and might not have internet for a few days. Therefore the first of the month and January 4th updates will likely be delayed.

As always any questions or comments are welcome to be posted here or private messaged to me.

The "Weekly" and "Monthly" Updates have been posted (finally!). I hope everyone had a good holiday season and enjoyed it as much as I did being back home in Halifax.

As an added new years bonus here are some photos I got of the crane action around Halifax;

And my personal favourite .......

It would be great to see a comparison picture in a couple of years. There will be quite a few changes.

I hope you enjoyed your holidays. Seeing your updates makes it seem like old times on this forum. It is too bad that so many have to keep moving away from NS.

Great photos.

It will be interesting to see what comes of some rumoured developments in the future, like the Trade Mart redevelopment or changes to some of the apartments along Brunswick. A Cogswell redevelopment is not far-fetched either.

During this week's weekly & monthly updates I will be updating the community titles as recommended on the last page. I will be following standard community boundaries but I will also be separating them by associated community councils. Here are the new names with descriptive boundaries in brackets (not to be included on front page);

1. HALIFAX - PENINSULA (Delineated by Halifax Peninsula Land-Use Bylaw so Joseph Howe and parts of Dutch Village mark the only land boundaries)
2. HALIFAX - MAINLAND / WEST (Halifax outside of Peninsula LUB. Also includes Herring Cove, Harrietsfield, and B-L-T area).
3. DARTMOUTH - URBAN (All of Dartmouth located inside of Highway 111).
4. DARTMOUTH - SUBURBAN / EAST (Dartmouth outside of Highway 111, Shearwater, Eastern Passage, Cole Harbour, Westphal, and Preston Areas)
5. BEDFORD & SACKVILLE / CENTRAL (Communities of Bedford, Lower/Middle/Upper Sackville along with surrounding exurban areas like Hammonds Plains, Tantallon, Beaverbank, Fall River, Waverley, and Goffs/Airport).

The sixth category will be removed.

For the sections that span multiple communities (2, 4 & 5) I will be adding the community names into the civic addresses as they are updated over time.

It should be noted that I have begun estimating the height for buildings (3.1m / residential or hotel floor, 3.9m / office or retail floor). These are represented by a "~" symbol. Exact maximum heights usually comfirmed by development agreements are represented by a "^" symbol. A lot of projects are probably out-of-date due to a lack of information and updates especially the suburban categories.

^Thanks Fenwick16

Just an update I've had way too much time lately so the map now has all 200+ buildings listed.

The map is organized alphabetically (not by height like the list). There are three categories that can be turned on and off as desired. There are some roads shown but these are ONLY the roads that have listed buildings on them. The roads are purely to show a more exact location of buildings and they will be deleted as Google updates its satellite photos. "Squares" are primarily residential buildings. "Diamonds" are commercial-based buildings, "Stars" are public in nature, and "Circles" are uncategorized. Same as the list only buildings over 15 METRES are shown. I can't embed the map into the forum so instead I will have the link at the top of the post and each category will show an screenshot of the map that will link directly to the map. The "important" MPS/LUB planning boundaries are shown on the map as purple lines.

As for the "Halifax Developments List" it will be revamped over the coming weeks. The categories will be cut down to three to match the map. The Peninsula will retain its own category, Dartmouth has already been merged into Dartmouth & Suburbs, and the remaining area will be listed under Mainland/Bedford/Sackville & Suburbs. The idea for the future look of the list can be seen in the Dartmouth category.

As always questions or comments can be posted in this thread or in a PM.

So it seems, even with some of the great new developments on the peninsula, a strong majority of new 12 storey+ developments are actually happening waaaaay out past even the suburbs of Bedford in the Kearney Lake Rd area.

Hmmm.

All three sections of the list are now up-to-date and in the new format.

Another year has passed by and now that we are settling back into the winter lull I think its time to generate some discussion.

2013 year-end wrap up!

- 195 buildings from 15 M - 134 M of these 72 (36.92) are proposed, 87 (44.62%) are approved, and 36 (18.46%) are under construction!
- 113 (57.95%) have Halifax addresses, 44 (22.56%) are in Bedford, 35 (17.95%) are in Dartmouth, 2 (1.03%) are in Westphal, and 1 (0.51%) is in Sackville.
- 41% are highrises! (~60% urban, ~40% suburban)

The impacts of these developments have changed the skylines of Bedford South, Burnside, and Downtown Halifax.

So with the year now behind us it is time to look forwards to 2014!

What developments proposed or approved do you most look forward to getting underway?

Which neighbourhoods do you think should see the next round of proposals or continued growth?

Are there any specific lots on which you would like to see proposals in 2014?

We have a proposal for a 34 and 45 story building as part of Kings Wharf. We have nothing anywhere near that weight being proposed for the Halifax side of the harbor. It is hard enough getting 7 stories approved on the peninsula.

7 stories... think of the children affected, increased traffic, and hoardes of seagulls that will destroy the neighborhood. I, for one, will not stand for this.

7 storeys will also cause increased noise. Tidal changes. The sun, nay the sky, will be blocked out forever. Mass hysteria. Hunger. Pestilence. And, of course, wind tunnels.

It might even attract students and young professionals. IT MUST BE STOPPED.

I just wanted to mention that the map has had a format change which I think my fellow forumers will enjoy.

The map now features renderings and construction photos (when available). Renderings are available for a lot of projects. Construction photos are harder to get since I don't live in Halifax right now. If somebody does take photos of sites around town and would like to have their photos on the map feel free to private message me.
