How close to a skyscraper construction is one allowed to pilot their drone before someone calls the authorities?

And even if the drone quickly flies away, the photos prove how close it was. But someone taking construction photos with a drone is likely a better pilot than someone flying it over their neighborhood from their backyard. I'd be more concerned about that. The intrusion, the noise, the danger of it crashing on someone or a pet in your yard.

Depends on the danger you pose. I dont think there is a specific law on that. You cant fly over large groups of people and you cant be using your drone to spy on people in private. As long as you are not posing a threat then there is no reason for the cops to be called.

Call who you want. There is nothing illegal about the flying used to take these photos. And I guarantee you as a business, he has his part 107 and knows 100x more than you do about drone laws.

I think that comment was made in jest....

However, the drones do get awfully close and are entering a legal grey area when you're literally able to spy on someone in their home...so...

I was only half-joking.

Having piloted drones commercially myself, the issue here is that it is prohibited to fly drones over people not involved in the flight. What this means is that you can technically get in trouble for flying them in urban areas, especially on or near construction zones where there's bound to be lots of foot and vehicle traffic. There's ways around this (e.g. you can get a waiver from the local jurisdiction, i.e. the City, to block off a street in order to shoot footage) but most people who just want to take a few cool photos for their Flickr don't bother.

Drone laws changed in April. It is no longer illegal to fly them over people, vehicles for category 1 or 2 drones, given it is Remote ID compliant.

Also to the General, modern drones can withstand winds 25mph+. If you are flying drones in conditions of 30mph+,(although some drones can withstand this), then you are reckless and probably deserve to have your drone blow away.

Anyways, to get back on topic, I wish there was a "sail" on both sides of the building. Looking at it from the east, it just looks like a larger, different take on Northshore.
