Here are some textures that I have done in ms paint so far.
The water, (it renders now).

The new and improved GP building.

The building over the park it is the one with the glass setbacks. The glass is not origanally mine but I modified it in paint to get rid of some of the reflections.

Thats about everything for now I will post more later.

Well, I decided to do a brief history of Bay City.
1. The city was founded in 1804 when a english ship landed on the peninsula and started a town.
2. Origanally the citys name was baytown but that name was later changed to Bay City.
3. In the early to mid 1900's the city was a popular vacation spot, but in the 1980's with the building boom the city began to embrace corporate america. Soon the city would have the seccond largest amount of office space in the country. As the business came the tourist population dropped. It dropped so much that the cruise port was replaced with a office park.
4. Today the main peninsula is mainly office space with most of the remaining Res. either around Trinity Bay or the Bay City park.
Thats all for now there will be more later. Also as an added bonus here is an interesting picture of the bay. Oh and today I made 7 more textures in ms paint and I will post pictures of those later.

One more thing I forgot to mention, as I make more textures in ms paint I am phasing out the old ones from the 3d warehouse. I don't know how to completely erase all of them at once but I will git rid of all of them quickly. Also I wanted to ask, there is one building in my city, I dont know who made the textures for them. I was going to ask if I could keep them. It is my favorite in the city, here is a picture, it's the one in the middle with the green glass. Can you tell which textures are mine in that picture there are 7.

the last shot looks great but you still have to improve the detail of your models.soem of them are only boxes with a texture. you have good ideas but you don't put your plans into action. the GP building is a good example:
your idea is good and your texture is also well choosen, but it looks way to plain. if you add detail like a good base, a real facade, a roof texture and stuff like this your buildings will look 10 times better.
a few months ago my buildings in sketchup were also only better shoe boxes because i first made the whole building (for example a 400feet box) and then i added soem details and the texture. now i model one really detailed floor and copy it several times. then i make a base and the roof. to show you the difference look at the building in your last shot. on the left side of the floyd, the blue-black box. and then look at my newest building. i know it sounds very overweening but i only want to show you the difference. here is the link to my tower:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehou...92&prevstart=0

i hope it helps you to improve bay city.

The sad thing is I live a long way from a downtown and have a 4 megapixel camera, how do I get good base textures?

I like how your phasing out 3D Warehouse textures, while you said there where 7 I couldnt spot them, so thats good! They blend in! I did however spot 4 of mine.

But really, start adding detail in your buildings, one by one, instead of doing only the intresting buildings first. I might even suggest starting over with a fresh layout.

So you mean new grid, land and buildings but with my handmade textures. Also I have incredible trouble designing a grid, can you explain to me a proper way to do this.

Ok, I made a new land plot and new towers but the name stays the same. I don't think I will put textures on the buildings to the verry end, because they are finishers and I think I should add detail to the buildings first.
The texture on one of the buildings is just a test. I made it in ms paint and I wanted to see that the buildings were the right size.

Here is a grid plan of the city.

Also I wanted to ask if people could coment more with things I could improve because there hasen't been much feedback lately.

starting with a new grid may help you improving bay city but i liked the old one...but your buildings still don't have much detail on it. the tallest is a good design and i like the setbacks very much but on the side to the water there is nothing on th facade from 30-300m. it's only plain wall.

The reason I started with a new grid is because the grid on the old city was horrible. The basic roads were over 90 feet long, thats a 10 lane highway and what was supposed to be the highway was over 170 feet long, that's 17 lanes. The new grid plan is a little more realistic with the roads going about 4-5 lanes. The cities population has been changed to 3.47 million for the city and 12.273 million for the metro. The reason for the large metro is miami is included and because the island will become a yet to be named city with a population of about 1.5 million. There will be a skyline for that city but it will probably not have a supertall due to the hight restrictions imposed by the bay city. Also reason my buildings do not have much detail yet is because I think a city should be built like a house first you build the frame (basic buildings) then you put the finishing touches on it (textures and finishing details). Also I am not going for a floor by floor building type so my buildings will not be super detailed. I will also bring back old buildings from the original bay city. I hope everyone likes the new design.

I think you should texture one building at a time, as soon as you make it.

The problem is that if I texture them all at once i will have a lagging city to deal with. I am making more textures to put on the buildings later but I still am going to stick with my current plan.

Ok I caved, I told myself I wasen't going to add textures to the verry end. It eventually got boring so I textured most of the buildings with handmade textures today. I hope you like them.
