Humans are social animals.
One can only spend so much time alone/with the same people, so I'm not surprised that in absence of a crisis in places, people want to get out, especially with spring starting.
People joke about being hermits in the modern era, but for most people it's really bad to be socially isolated. Which is one of the weird ironies of this as compared to most things - generally those who have better social connections tend to be healthier than the isolated.
