Lebanon, IN

Lebanon is a city about 30 miles northwest of Indianapolis in central Indiana, and is the seat of Boone County. The population is around 16,000.

Lebanon was founded in 1830, and became the county seat in 1832 for its central location. It served the surrounding farmland in the county. In the last 30 years or so, Lebanon has seen some growth as the Indianapolis suburbs have crept northwest into the county and towards the city.


The Boone County Courthouse, on the courthouse square at Main Street & Meridian Street. The courthouse was built in 1911.



The courthouse is said to contain the largest monolithic limestone columns in the world.



The Lebanon Public Library, on Washington Street. The main section of the library was built in 1991.



Connected to the library is the original Carnegie Library, built in 1904.



The Old Jail, on Washington Street at Meridian Street. The county jail was built in 1939.



The Knights of Pythias Hall, on Washington Street. The structure was built in 1894.



Buildings on Main Street. The Italianate buildings on the left were built in 1866. The bank on the right was built in 1982.



The old Farmers State Bank Building, at Main & Meridian Streets. The bank was built in 1907.



Buildings on Meridian Street.



First United Presbyterian Church, on Main Street. The church was built in 1873.



Buildings on Main Street. The three buildings on the left were built in 1880, and the taller building on the right was built in 1905.



The Boone County Office Building, on Washington Street. The modern structure was built in 1995.



An old Elks Lodge, on Washington Street. The lodge was built in 1925, and is now an office building.



First Baptist Church, on Washington Street. The church was built in 1913.



The Parr Building, on Main Street. The structure was built in 1922, and was originally called the Reporter Building.



The U.S. Post Office, on Main Street. The post office was built in 1931.



The Strange Nathanial Cragun House, on Main Street. The house was built in 1893, and is now home to the Boone County Historial Society.



An old Texaco gas station on Main Street. The gas station was built in 1930.



The old N. N. Smith Company Building, on West Street. The structure was built in 1926, and is now the Lebanon City Apartments.



The Lebanon Municipal Building, on Meridian Street.



Houses on North Street.



Houses on East Street.



Houses on North Street at East Street.



Houses on Lafayette Avenue.



St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, on South Street. The church was built in 2012.



A shopping plaza on Lebanon Street. A historic plaque in front marks the spot where Abraham Lincoln addressed the people of the town and county from a railroad car on February 11, 1861, en route to Washington, DC, for his inauguration as President of the United States.

An old railroad station on Smith Street



A railroad bridge over South Street, built in 1916.



A convenience store on South Street at Ping Avenue.



The Andrew VanHuys Round Barn, on Middle Jamestown Road, on the edge of town. The barn was built in 1912.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like it has some charm.

YouTuber Nick Johnson that tours cities across America, and usually shows the roughest neighborhoods, homelessness, poverty and "grit porn" (claims "that's what the viewers want") says that Casey's is the best grab and go pizza on the road.
Apparently they are famous in the Midwest for breakfast pizza. 'Murrikah. F*** Yeah!

I always enjoy seeing the site where something historic happened and its unrelated modern development nearby.

surprisingly, i did know there is a Lebanon in the US. now I know it is in IN.

There are a few, since the name has biblical ties. There's also a Lebanon in Tennessee near Nashville, for instance.
