I miss the Constellation Hotel - it was an iconic landmark for the area and way better (architecturally) than the vast majority of cookie-cutter hotels in the area. It seemed to sit as an empty hulk for quite some time.

That was awesome! I can imagine so many 80’s movies taking place there. Danny Glover would totally chase the Predator on that rooftop. I miss hotels with seedy neon roof signs.

Edmonton sure loves to do themes. Here's another one.

The potential of their historic Molson brewery site was wasted on a strip mall with fake smoke stacks. I commend them for at least using actual brick and not brown stucco. I know how much they love stucco in Edmonton.

Wholly fuck, that is bad.

Reminds me of the disastrous "Fantasy Garden World" of Richmond, BC that rotted for decades

It always reminded me of the condos near Blue Mountain.

In the summer of 1980 my family was scheduled to fly to the UK for a vacation/see family etc. The flight was supposed to go at night, we got to the airport and only then did they tell us the flight was delayed until the next morning. We headed home and showed up the next morning and they had 'just found out' that the plane was delayed until the evening (now 24 hour delay).

They put us up in a hotel for the daytime and it was the Constellation. Even then it was a tired hotel.

It would be the other way around. The Marriott was built 5 years later.

Kitchener’s about to get both the fake smokestack and a fake water tower in a makeover of its Fairview Park mall.
