SLC can absolutely handle towers of this height if placed in the right locations. Astra is a great start, but still not tall enough to effectively break the table top.

Thanks, and yes I agree you could go even taller. Trust me, I was fighting the urge to do that very thing, but wanted to keep it somewhat realistic lol.

A 600 footer would *maybe* have looked out of place in the past, but it wouldn't anymore. The recent batch of 375-400 ft towers, along with Astra has really filled in the gaps that existed for years and now a 600 ft tower would look absolutely amazing.

i2theSKY, Not only the height and placement but I especially like the design mix and maybe even more the spires at the top. The Salt Lake skyline has arrived at a time when it needs to vary the tops of its high rises. We've talked about that off and on for over a decade now and this illustration is a major show of how attractive this possibility would be. Not a spindly like flagpole but spires that are substantial and a roofline that compliments the spire. That's pretty much what you have here.

FWIW I think just about every city feels this way about their skylines.

Considering what’s in the photos, they should be bigger. What a beautiful site to finally witness. Good riddance, Royal Wood Plaza.

Lunch Break Photos 8/15

Royal Wood Demolition

Not sure what this steel frame being built on the corner of 200 South and 300 West is.

The Revival

Brix? (325 W 400 S)

Really hope to see the old Public Safety Building restored, here's a picture of the less visually appealing side that I snapped at work.

I worry that if it remains vacant and unattended it may catch fire thanks to the unofficial tenants.

Thanks Paniolo Man! I really like the exterior look and materials of the Revival. On another update - I was in Sugarhouse the other day and they have the construction crane up at the Sugar Alley project and framing has started.

I think the steel frame is for the Greek Festival tent. It's in a few weeks.

West Quarter

Speaking of the RWP, does anyone on this thread know exactly what is going to be in the 2nd phase of the West Quarter?

Is it going to be a mixture of Hotels, office buildings and apartments.?How tall are they going to be? Any time line for the construction?

I believe the first building to go up for the next Phase of West Quarter is a large 16-story apartment building, with ground floor retail. I have heard that the garage portion has received its building permit or is going through permit review.

Project Updates 8/15/2023

Convexity and Astra from 300 S 300 E.

Cottonwood Broadway Apartments - looks basically complete

L'oriol Plaza - no work on site yet

TAG 343 - looks like interior work is all that is left

Aqui355 - nearing completion, looks like interior work

The Dewitt - Appears fully framed out

The Citizen - Also appears to be framed out with some windows going in now.

Liberty Duet - demolition work

Liberty Duet appears to be changing from it's original plan, as they recently filed for a Zoning change and it appears to now include surrounding properties.

Original plans for liberty Duet (likely not what is being built): https://citizenportal.slcgov.com/Cit...howInspection=

Original Liberty Duet design:

Zoning amendment seeking a rezone to TSA-UC-C: https://citizenportal.slcgov.com/Cit...howInspection=

Original Plans only was for area A, so it looks like they added 3 properties to the project:

Rocky Mountain Power HQ

Fyi, here are some images that have been available to the public regarding the HQ for Rocky Mountain Power. I've been working on this for over a year now.
