In late April 2015, I spent a long weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta has had an interesting emergence as a major American city... and the urban planning approaches it has taken have long been debated here at SSP.
I first explored the city in 2004, and over my many visits since, it is clear that the core of Atlanta has started to come into its own - finally creating walkable, denser zones of activity and finding ways to start connecting these zones together. While the forces of sprawl still sometimes prevail, it was a joy spending some time trying to capture some of the spirit of ATL.
Enjoy these... and, of course, feel free to stop by www.theamericanskyline.com for more. I'm super excited to visit Atlanta again next week and see just how much difference a year can make!
Nice photos of Atlanta. Yeah, you're going to see a decent amount of changes in Atlanta. For example, Ponce City Market is finally open so I strongly suggest checking that out. Several new towers in Midtown and Buckhead have gone up.
Great photos! Atlanta has always been fascinating and vibrant, and recently it's been morphing into a coherent urban center as well.
For your visit be sure to check out:
Ponce City Market
Krog St Market (may have just opened last time you visited)
The new Civil Rights Museum downtown
Midtown's construction boom
Looks like you've been to little five points, but for other lively areas, check out East Atlanta Village, Inman Park, Decatur Square, Westside/Howell Mill corridor (Goat Farm Arts Center), nightlife on Edgewood Ave, Glenwood Park for well done New Urbanism, Cabbagetown for artsy character/murals...
There are several stunning photos in this great collection...thanks for sharing them!
Is the 2nd to last photo taken from the Peachtree Pointe office building? It's an excellent view that I haven't seen before.
I hope you enjoy your visit and look forward to more photos.
