I get the feeling that the city wants to beautify the periphery. Montcalm, Maisonneuve, Laurier, Allumettières. Making a nice tidy ring around the places they don't want you to see.
It's too bad. I was at the fireworks show on Canada day, and walked the length of Saint-Étienne to the parc-o-bus at the Guertin arena, something I have never done in the 13 years I've lived here. I know it was Canada Day, and it was hot, but the activity on the street was great. Corner stores with doors wide open, people out on their balconies, the fringe trees in full white flower bloom.. This is what the city needs.
I don't want to see a nice and tidy wall of condos.
