Malaysia: Island Hopping at Penang and Langkawi

Further to my Kuala Lumpur thread a few days ago I thought I would add some more pictures from my trip to the region. These pictures are from the west coast of Malaysia north of KL on the way to Thailand

Penang

The famous old Eastern and Oriental Hotel

An old clock tower donated by a Hong Kong businessman to Queen Victoria.

Looking out into the Straight of Melaka, one of the most heavily pirated pieces of water in the world, though not as bad as it used to be. This is taken from the site of the old British fort, which was the first of the Straits settlement, which included Singapore.

Some sausages out drying in the warm sea air.

And some of the famous local street food

Getting on the boat for Langkawi

Arrival in Langkawi...some pretty spectacular beaches...

The so called "Isle of the Pregnant Maiden", which is perhaps more appropriately called "Monkey Island"

And back to KL on dirt cheap AirAsia

Extremely aggressive, because they were used to being around people and being fed by them. I was actually attacked by one when I slipped and made a loud noise with my foot, thereby scaring a group of monkeys that were near me. They didn't chase me for long thankfully.

aaw man I severely need to do AirAsia some time. From London it's £99 ($162) one way to Kuala Lumpur, + an extra £6 ($10) if you want to hop to Penang after. For £20 extra ($32) you can get all the way to Sydney.

Nice pictures Scott! I really loved Langkawi when I was there in 2006. I intend to go back sometime, hopefully next year!

Which beach was that in the pictures...Datai Beach?
