I guess the user that did it before isn't on these forums anymore.

You prompted me to do a retrospective of one of Maldive's old future Toronto skyline renderings from the mid-late aughties (he still posts here, though probably not any future skylines anymore). Behold, Toronto of 2015!

Not too far off from reality, actually.

The big advantage of the 3D models though is that they're a lot more accurate insofar as actual building dimensions go. Photoshopped visualizations in comparison, require a lot of guesswork based on perspective.

The ideal of course, would be to have detailed 3D models rendered within Google maps' interactive 3D view. Which would be a whole lot of work for little to no reward beyond SSP brownie points. Any takers?

There was also a guy called Traynor who made very good realistic Toronto renders, but I haven't seen him around in years.

I'll address some of the points you made about total city building. The computer resources needed grow and grow when more buildings get added to the total. At some point you have to sacrifice detail for more resources and then the whole thing becomes unwieldy. The number of individual objects on my model is approaching 3000 and I am near the limit of what Second Life will allow me to use at once. That's why I don't have balconies on my buildings for instance. I can't afford to, even though I would love to put that much detail on all 1300 of the buildings...

Thanks Monkey for conjuring up that ancient render.

Here's the update (same angle) I did with Koops for Toronto Life's 50th birthday a few years ago.

This is awesome!! Even with the hight limit, spreading these tall towers out more east doesn't make it too bad. Great work man
