" If it was left to Peter McCurdy (July 25 letter), we'd still be living in grass and mud huts. Mr. McCurdy refers to the "traditions of our ancestors." Our ancestors built and made their lives better. They were daring, fearless innovators. Our ancestors did not sit on their behinds complaining.
That's the problem with Halifax.
Nobody here wants to see Halifax grow. Our ancestors' spirit is gone. Anything out of the ordinary - cancel it. Buildings are too tall. Can't see the harbour from the Citadel. Mardi-Gras? Cancelled. Why? A couple of drunks.
Grand-Prix? Cancelled. A few complaints about the noise. Commonwealth Games? Cancel. Stadium? Cancel.
We have an inept council and mayor who waste their time on parking bans and cat licences. Why is that? Is it because we have too many old people living here? Doesn't anybody want our next generation to live in a thriving, modern city?
Thank God we still have a few developers here who have a vision for the Halifax of the future. They're innovators, just like our ancestors used to be."
