BC beaches aren't all that great, the best ones are remote or hard to reach, but most people while they love life by the sea prefer to swim in rivers or lakes, only non-coasters seem to enjoy swimming in the ocean here.

I got to visit tofino and pacific rim national park with some great beaches in august, despite a grey day it was still beautiful and not as cold as it looks.

Can't remember the name of this one but its inside Pacific Rim National Park

Picture is captured from Google Earth;

I was just playing around on Google Earth and just have to say that I feel that this is simply an amazing view - especially from an elevated freeway. What a remarkable area and one of the coolest urban drives likely anywhere in the world.

Wow, stirring set of Toronto pics there. I love the mom and pop fruit and veg shops and practically any photo with streetcars in it.

The third one from the top does it for me. Though at street level the King and Bathurst area is one of these weird transition zones, where futuristic sidewalk-hugging condos contend with groovy industrial-era brick monoliths, ugly 1960s apartment buildings and even uglier townhouses that are newer (their critical mass unfortunately serving to override the charm of the traditional bay-and-gable rowhousing sprinkled in and among them).

And yet, even so, the area still manages to be cool, desirable and effortlessly urban in a way that only Toronto could really pull off.

Today's Christmas Parade.

Video Link

Setting up in the morning, with the crowds slowly building. Snow squalls kept blowing in with rain, hail, slob snow, and snow.

Newfoundland ponies and Newfoundland dogs are about the same size. Labrador dogs are a bit smaller, but also so common these days that no one really associates Labs with us. Though they're actually from St. John's (and the Newfoundland, in the other direction, is mostly from Labrador).

Lovely Toronto pics... my commuter perspective taints my view but when I can be objective there really are so many interesting aspects and neighbourhoods to that city.

Montreal... the long distance love affair never ends. Continued admiration and adoration.

St. John's... every time I see pictures of that place I say "I need to visit" but I've yet to indulge (to my regret; and I even know someone who has moved there in the past year so my excuses hold little water now)

Thanks to all for sharing.

Nice shot of Halifax. But how does a city with a such a pronounced English and Scottish cultural background end up with an area called Schmidtville?

Actually there is a lot of German and Swiss ancestry in the Halifax area and along the South Shore. There are a lot of Halifax streets with German names and Lunenburg was almost all German settlers. Many French surnames came from Huguenot settlers. In the 18th century, what mattered most in Nova Scotia was that settlers had to be Protestant.

https://archives.novascotia.ca/genea...gn-protestants

Nova Scotia is a bit of a misnomer. There was a Scottish colony in the early 1600's and a scheme to make the area into "New Scotland" but that failed and Nova Scotia was French (Acadia) until 1713. The Scottish immigration that actually produced descendants today in Nova Scotia started around 1800, and had more of an impact on the northern parts of the province that were thinly settled back then.

Gorgeous pic, someone123. I love/hate how Nova Scotia takes everything we do and makes it look a little better.

Thanks for the quick history. And you'd think that with a name like Lunenburg the idea of a Germanic influence would be pretty obvious, but somehow that never registered with me before.
