Now some responses to some of the questions submitted to the state from potential bidders....
The underlying Hudson Yards zoning for this site...

Q#s 35 & 53 touch on the very thing I commented on many months ago regarding how it would have been ideal and shown a great deal of foresight on MTA's part to just go ahead and incorporate significant structural foundation load points while they were constructing the vent structure so all that didn't have to be done after the fact - if it can be done at all. They could have coordinated with ESD and arranged some sort of advanced funding which they would get back from a private developer in exchange for using those foundations. It would have been a win-win the maximize the potential of the site. Of course it always helps if there's a plan.

Although the 55 Hudson Yards site initially appeared to be a sparsely developed block, in reality, the site presents complex and difficult site conditions. It partially sits on top of the 34th Street-Hudson Yards subway station for the new No. 7 New York City subway and is occupied by a 6-story subway ventilation building. Another

A look at how Extell handled it when they were in charge of the 55 Hudson site...
The vent before 55 was built...
The Hudson Yards wasteland....
The vent on Site K will eventually have it's day in the construction spotlight...

i feel for peebles — he’s in a bit of a bind with the changes and with adjaye getting himself canceled.
the affirmation tower was very bold, i dk that it could or would have been built, but now it wont be for sure.
the hope here is height doesnt seem to be an issue, so hopefully we dont get something too bland. i guess we will know at the end of next month when rfp’s are due, unless we get some early leaked renders for bids.
also, there will be some building around and over the vent that will be interesting to see how its handled. looking forward to seeing that.

I don’t know if the Affirmation Tower design will translate to residential/hotel. The language for the affordable component goes further than most affordable requirements. But Peebles was among the attendees, and will likely submit another bid. Those bids are due in a matter of weeks, so we should hear something next month or soon after.

What are the limitations of the "Special Hudson Yards Zoning District" in question 42?
I wish there were a rule that whatever got built here had to be noticeably higher than 30HY, I wonder if the other bids are that ambitious.
The time is now to build a real 500+ meter tower.
I don't think we will see a 500+ meter tower here. A possible solution could be that of two towers. A tower like in size to the 432 Park Avenue tower with luxury apartment and hotel and a smaller tower, 550-600ft tall, for affordable units.
If you want to see a 500+ meter tower then hope for the Casino Tower project at West Hudson Yards!
A 500+ meter tower has to be financially economical for developers to build as the expenses would be astronomical.
I know but NY is probably one of the only, if not the only city on earth where it may be worth it economically. Central Park Tower is damn near 500m and happened.

Posted above. Disregard the parking requirements, that was later zoned out. (There was going to be a lot of parking underneath Hudson Boulevard).
The real limitations on what could be built are spelled out in the requirements of the RFP, which is very specific to affordable housing.

good to see the new bella abzug park folks jumped right in proactively.
its a nice, interesting and well designed park. its sterile now with all the development going on around it, but i have faith it will be very pleasant eventually.
hopefully the site k winner can design something to tie into it a bit rather than just face it coldly as the new office towers on the east side of it do. to walk out of your apt immediately into parkland is a great front door amenity.
It remains to be seen when and if the state will put the remaining site up for RFP when this process is complete. All the way back in 2006 Site K was going to be the convention center hotel, and the 34th Street site next to the rail yards would be a multi-tower development.
Ultimately, Gary Barnett was among the bidders for the hotel, and proposed a 980 ft hotel (before the rise of the supertalls) that would have been the tallest hotel.
Fast forward to Governor Cuomo's pitch of both sites as potential affordable housing, though he wouldn't require it as part of the RFP process...

Bids are due next Wednesday. It remains to be seen, but I believe David Adjaye will remain on the Peebles proposal, whatever form it takes. I'm not expecting anything as tall as what was proposed before, with the change in program. At least, it's not likely, (but could happen).
Still, with the shift to residential, a look at Adjaye's tallest in the city, 130 William Street...
