Tim Horton's in the food court at Intercity is going to be undergoing a renovation and will be closed for two weeks and it will be starting at some point in the near future. The poor mall walkers and mall employees.

Global Experience moved to May St. and not S. Algoma St.

Mr. Habib bought the old Free Methodist Church on Secord St. and intends to renovate it into condos while restoring the outside look of the building. I am quite glad that he has because the building itself is in some definite need of TLC and is such a landmark in that neighbourhood.

Three cheers for Mr. Habib! May that man win the $50,000,000 in next week's Lotto Max.

Here is an exciting proposal for a trio of high rises in downtown Sudbury. I told the guys at SSC to post it here but they don't listen:

A Montreal developer will return to Sudbury this week with plans to build one of the largest housing developments in the city's history on downtown Sudbury's doorstep.

Centennial Enterprises Ltd. will be hoping for final approval Tuesday to build three 17-storey apar tment buildings overlooking Brady Street between Brady Square and Van Horne, Lourdes and St. Raphael streets. The project would cost up to $80 million to build.

Combined, the three towers will create 800 new condominium and seniors' units. That's down from a year ago when the developer first approached the city with plans for four towers totalling 1,000 units. As well, efforts have been made to mass the buildings close to Brady Street, away from homes on Lourdes and St. Raphael streets. The 20-acre site already has a 14-storey apartment tower on it-- Cherry Hill Gardens -- owned by the same developer.

At 17 storeys, these new buildings would match Rockview Towers on Ramsey View Court as the city's tallest...

...

The development will create 43 to 48 full-time jobs and generate $3.8 million in development charges for the city and $1.5 million in tax revenue annually.

Ugly buildings but this being Sudbury they'll be the prettiest things around.

Eww.. as if they weren't awful enough, they had to be put on a rocky outcrop pedestal.

Sault forest biomass plant gets cash for expansion

From Sootoday.com

NEWS RELEASE

CENTRE FOR RESEARCH
AND INNOVATION IN
THE BIO-ECONOMY

******************************
CRIBE supports northern green economy by funding forest biomass pilot plant in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Centre for Research and Innovation in the Bio-Economy (CRIBE) is pleased to announce a $923,261 investment to expand Elementa Group’s Pre-Commercial Demonstration Plant in Sault Ste. Marie.

This funding will allow Elementa to make the necessary modifications to begin using forest biomass as an additional feedstock.

The current Elementa process uses municipal solid waste to produce a high quality synthetic gas (syngas).

The upgrade will allow Elementa to do the same thing with forest biomass, the waste material from forestry operations such as tree tops, branches and foliage.

Converting this plant to also use forest biomass as a feedstock will demonstrate the viability of forest residue as a renewable energy source.

It is clean, highly efficient and supports the global effort to reduce greenhouse gases and commercialize alternative energy production.

Elementa currently employs 20 people and the addition of forest biomass to the process is expected to create five to six direct jobs.

I like how it says "similar" in the bottom corner. That means that they took the time to change that fugly design, which they probably bought from one of those catalogs.

It'll still look close enough to that to be ugly. Oh well, at least Current River is out of the way. This is better than a dilapidated building or vacant lot.

DP Energy wants to develop 60 Megawatt wind Farm at Bow Lake in the Goulais bay area north of Sault Ste. Marie.
Supporters like the idea that more green energy is coming to the Soo.
But others thinks it's uneeded and will have to many environmental impacts.
The one I thought was interesting was the guy who said that wind energy is not needed and too dirty.
That one got a laugh out of me. I don't understand how wind energy is dirty it's more cleaner than the coal or gas power plants being used today.
My biggest concern is that the power generate will be exported to the States.
If this project does go through, I hope the structures will be constructed at Essar Steel Algome like the ones were for the wind farm in Essex County.

Wind energy is more dirty because property values go down, and that causes emissions of hot air from NIMBYs to rise by 700%.

well yeah, CO2 being a greenhouse gas and all, wind energy therefore causes global warming... err, I mean Climate Change.
