So it seems that the Witte building just east of main plaza is trying to gain approval from HDRC to be redeveloped, and the hotel on houston street is going for final approval.

Also the Kress building is looking for someone to take up the floors above Texas de Brazil. They preferred to get some residential, but they don't seem to hopeful of the outcome because of the cost.

My friends that live in the "Deep South" call it "SoSo", short for south of Southtown. Hardly official, but it does seem to indicate they are trying to identify the area.

I like the word "SoSo"... To me it's better than saying deep south IMO.

SoSo? That has a nice ring to it...

Their friends and family can ask
"How do you like the neighborhood?"

and the standard reply could be
"It's SoSo"

Because it is

I can see a t-shirt that says "I live in a SoSo neighborhood"

"Deep South" conjures up images of banjos and overalls

Hell Yeah! I just tripped on my own drool! Goodbye dumpsters & broken window fragments threatening the lives of the unsuspecting passing below! Hello New Orleans inspired oasis of awesomeness It kinda looks like the new addition is wrapping around the backside. Are there other renderings available?

Do you know how far along they are? I wonder what to expect.

I'm also curious about that CPS Energy tower proposal. I wonder if that has gotten some good momentum as well.

The East Quincy Townhouses development is now under construction. The abandoned building that stood at the site was demo'd last week.

I believe you're seeing the former site of the SAPD Headquarters, which has been demolished to make room for a new federal court house.

Speaking of Federal Courthouse, I came across this model of it. Let's you see different angles of it (sort of).

That courthouse looks OK. It also looks like 1973... but OK.

H-E-B plans $100 million downtown expansion over the next 10 years
Plans include grocery store, 8-story office building and relocation of employees to downtown.

Quote:
Less than two months after H-E-B's proposal for a downtown store went public, the company is unveiling its plan for a much greater role in the area.

The locally based grocer plans to invest at least $100 million over the next 10 years to redevelop the nearly 27 acres that it owns around and including its Arsenal headquarters near the King William Historic District. Years in the making, H-E-B's master plan for the area includes several mixed-use buildings and a new pedestrian and bike trail along South Flores between Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Arsenal Street.

The company also will move about 1,600 workers to its downtown campus by 2030, essentially doubling its current workforce in the area, Craig Boyan, H-E-B's chief operating officer, said in an exclusive interview with the San Antonio Express-News.

“We think that we can help make South Flores and the San Pedro Creek a great street and a great redevelopment area in the city, perhaps like another Southtown,” Boyan said.

I think low-key is a better description. It's actually not a bad design, but I was expecting something bigger/taller.

It's going to be 110,000 sq ft according to Lake Flato's web site. And according to the GSA web site they had 295 sq ft with the 3 buildings. There is not breakdown of the actual courthouse. So are there plans to add an office building as well?

I think the courthouse looks fine. Not great, but fine. Considering some of the other new federal courthouses I've seen (El Paso and Albuequerque's come to mind) it could be a lot worse.

And that's fantastic news about HEB. Makes me feel a lot better about the potential South Main closing.

eh, the courthouse design seems to be following what they have done in other cities like El Paso.
