Saw the commercial a couple of times tonight. Had to pause the PVR to try and identify all the locations. Lots of shots right downtown at Main and James and in the Gore, and a nice panoramic view of downtown at the end of the spot.

Not sure where the "Metro" subway entrance is located, but looks very familiar. And the shot where they are driving looks to be going south on Queen Street, I think (escarpment is straight ahead).

So awesome. great shots and very good skyline pano.

I also saw part 2 to the TD ad with the two old men sitting outside in Gore Park.

I'm a big fan of the ING ad too. It runs a lot on BNN

Watch for KIA Forte ads as well. I've seen two different version and both from Hamilton. For some reason car commercials love the Burlington St overpass.

The "Metro" sign is an add-on - the stairway is the underpass on MacNab Street by the YWCA and MacNab Presbyterian Church. I thought the driving shot looked more like Hunter or Jackson Street. Thoughts?

City's core backdrop for TV ads

August 13, 2009
The Hamilton Spectator
http://www.thespec.com/News/Local/article/617253

Think the backdrop of Aero's new floating chocolate bubbles ad looks eerily like downtown Hamilton?

Or that the road the new Kia Forte Koup jets down in its new ad is strikingly like the city's industrial core?

If so, you've got a good eye.

Both ads were recently shot in Hamilton and will be broadcast nationally.

Kia filmed its new ad for the 2010 Forte Koup in both Steeltown and Toronto, spending June 21 in the city before heading east to finish the three-day shoot.

In an e-mail, a spokesperson for the company said Hamilton was chosen to "get a couple of different-looking locations" rather than "typical Toronto locations."

The company said the shoot took place on Burlington Street and the ad clearly shows the Forte driving along the popular thoroughfare. The crew also shot at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

Just days later, a company working on behalf of Nestle shot an ad for the Aero milk chocolate bar with floating chocolate bubbles in front of what appears to be the Gore Park fountain and the downtown intersection of Main and James.

Nestle said the ad was shot around the downtown. Hamilton, which was selected by the ad company, offered things like a "wide spectrum of attractive, architectural styles" and an abundance of city with lush green space close by.

The city estimated that out of all of the film projects that shoot in Hamilton each year, about 10 to 15 per cent are commercials.

Deborah saw this on TV yesterday and looked last night on Youtube and Cadbury's website looking to see if it was posted somewhere to confirm what she saw were Hamilton landmarks.

I thought maybe they were sitting in the Gore - thanks for pointing that one out.

The old man with the glasses and hat was my high school history teacher - Ian Downie. He's been in many commercials including the Oatmeal Crisp ad. Not a Hamiltonian tho.

No luck with a link. You would think in this day and age, they'd post it on the web as well. Makes sense to me......

Nice job!

There's also another Kia Forta ad, the commercial ends at Hess Village at night.

Watching the Kia commercial gives an idea of what King would look like after it goes 2-way. The car is going eastbound past the entrance to the AGH.

I couldn't fight a wave of Steeltown nostalgia when I saw the following ad play before "The Cove" at a theatre in Vancouver:
