This was the first time I had actually had a real roof over me ( we used to use plastic backs we found behind thes tore we sold the clay tiles too.. )

The reason we have irregular apartment buildings is because here in Scandinavia it gets really cold at night, so we have fireplaces on the balconies to keep warm and keep the polarbears away ( they are attracted to the smell of food and without electricty we can't store food elsewhere than in our room ) if we had the fires inside the buildings would burn..

( how do people keep warm in the USA at night - do they use that electricity? )

A few years ago I found a magazine in the garbage can I was looking for food in and saw pictures of the USA and I was absolutely amazed

I can not believe how rich you guys are, living in houses and owning cars - here only the royal family and tile exporters can afford that! ( we have a cart we can push, but the right wheel keeps falling off )

I really hope I can make enough tiles to afford the boat ticket so I too may be able to see and maybe even own my own house!!! ( will probable have to start with a regular apartment building - I really hope it will have electricity, that would be so neat to have instead of all these candles )

How much does clay tiles sell for in the US? ( I can make nearly 50 a day! )
Denmark has poor people? I thought all you elitist socialists lived in mansions...

Are commie blocks irregular or abnormal buildings?

I sadly think you heard wrong - despite all my work for the state all I've been handed was an old shack next to the tracks - it doesn't even have a garage and there are hours of walking to the nearest shop.. and the outhouse has mice

I see our taxes have only given you one private rail, and your football field doesn't even have a stadium. I blame the immigrants :

^^ I'm still trying to figure out if that is even real. I swear to god it looks fake as hell, and if it is real, I would kill myself if I lived there. It's like...Ikea housing. I thought some US suburbs were bad, but this takes the cake. Where are the trees?!

That's a real photo, and a pretty typical suburban Mexico City neighborhood.

There are millions of people living in houses like this (though many have only one-floor, and are somewhat older and crappier looking).

For millions of Mexicans, this is the Mexican Dream.

These are modern, relatively well-constructed homes. For most Mexicans, who are poor and grew up in crappy cinderblock buildings (or even shacks), this is something to aspire to.

for poor people, living in such a place is probably better than living carboard slums, dont you think?

And let's be real for a second, these buildings aren't worse than the many row houses you'll find in Britain or the cookie cutter homes in many US suburbs, the only real difference is that these are really ugly

There's no way that picture is real; not because of the ridiculousness of the housing but because it looks like a rendering of some sort.

Nope, it's a real pic, and looks quite typical for middle class suburbs just outside Mexico City.

about the mexican picture...

it belongs to this site
http://homepage.mac.com/helipilot/PhotoAlbum20.html

that neighborhood apparently is called Ixtapaluca...

here another photo, with still unpainted house. There are 23 thousand houses that look the same in Ixtapaluca...

about Ixtapaluca
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ixtapaluca

Tultitlan

photos either found here
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=253122

or on Oscar Ruiz´ site, which is the one from the watermark at the aerial pictures.

For those that know Mexico City, Ixtapaluca and Tultitlan are a little to the northeast of the airport, and in the eastern suburbs.

But one can find these types of suburbs in all directions just outside city limits.

I think Tultitlan is more middle class and Ixtapaluca is more working class.
