Oh I know. It's the little things we can celebrate. It's all we've got left this year.

At least Rathbone looks pretty good. Considered by some to be on par with Fox. Another great rookie for the Canucks next year, along with Podkolzin.

I know it doesn't seem like it, but the Canucks are building a very strong team.

Wish we could have seen a bit of Podkolzin this year.

Podkolzin led his KHL club (SKA) in play-off scoring this year. He is ready to step in and be an impact player for the Canucks right away, and possibly be another Calder candidate for the Canucks. Larionov compares him to Messier.

My Quebec social media channels have been going bonkers over Caufield since last week.

Interesting to see how this has caught on as a trend. Basically all the Canadian cities have their AHL teams in their backyard except for Calgary and Edmonton... I wonder what they'll do next, especially if covid remains a factor?

Funny thing is I always thought this approach would work well. Surely the hockey braintrust could have appreciated that the Canucks farm team would be a hotter sell in Abbotsford than the Flames' farm team and would also be much more convenient from a player development standpoint, yet it took until now to get them to try?

I wonder where this leaves the Van. Giants? They could be the odd man out here, as the Canucks continue to be the main draw while the AHL team in Abbotsford draws Canucks fans from the Fraser Valley who can't be bothered with the time and/or expense of going into the city to watch the big club.

Wow that's very high praise! Although Messier captained the worst Canucks' era in the last 20 years.

We renewed our season tickets today for next season. Felt odd, but hopeful.

3% rebate if you renew before tomorrow is a nice touch and 5% on our money from this season helps.

It's been the NHL's goal over the past 5-10 years. Las Vegas gets Henderson, Colorado gets Colorado, Montreal gets Laval. Keeping AHL teams as close as possible is obviously much easier for logistics as well as attracting that additional local market that can't get to NHL games either logistically or financially. I think two/thirds of AHL teams are directly owned by NHL teams now which certainly will add in to franchise valuation and asset management moving forward. Some notable independent AHL teams still remaining are Hershey and Chicago.

Some of those longstanding AHL teams like Hershey and Rochester bring character to the league and should never move.

Yeah, unlike Rochester and Hershey, Syracuse has gone through many name changes and even franchises (and I think there may be some gaps) but it's still very much a minor league hockey legacy city.

It's also very convenient now with COVID and all the cross border (provincial or national) restrictions. Having your farm team close to home makes sense, anyways.

The way Ottawa has been playing lately, it's bound to be another tight game tonight. Dare I say, 3 OT winners in a row for Caufield ? Your social media channels will probably go triple bonkers if that happens.....

Remember John LeClair in the 1993 playoffs?

The Habs won ten (!) games in OT that playoffs, including three straight against Buffalo and LA.
