Another pub, not Greek style, but fun never-the-less:

the place to go in Toronto for the widest selection of hot sauces:

The sun begins to set, and the street takes on a magical glow:

as I ride my bike home that evening, tired but happy, one last view of the
Roger's building, which means I've arrived back in my neighbourhood!:

And one final stop at Greektown.. this time in August for the great annual "Taste of The Danforth". I never miss this weekend, and love to wander about trying all the different foods. I think you can imagine the sights, the sounds and the smells....

Food everywhere.... no one goes home hungry:

Dancers in traditional Greek costume, and as with all good street parties, lots of music:

Like any good village, Greektown has a central town square, of sorts:

and here he is again, Alexander the Great:

and permit me to reprint a few pictures I posted last summer in this photoblog, as they seem
to fit in. They are from a Greek church downtown here in Toronto:

St George's Greek Orthodox Church, which started out life in 1890 as the Holy Blossom Synagogue, and converted to Greek Orthodox in 1937. The lush interiors were painted by the Pachomaioi monks:

I feasted on traditional Greek foods in the basement, made with love by a group of Greek grandmothers. When I asked for a Coke, one wagged her finger at me and playfully said: "No Coke. Orange Juice only. Is good for you, has fibre"!!

Thanks for coming along and hope you enjoyed this taste of summer!

And for good measure, a few extra pix of the Danforth:

Very nice..........extremely large collection of pictures. It will take me a few days to go through them all. Especially since I'm viewing them at work.

I might have to use some of those pictures from time to time on my MSN at work.

Thanks Taller!!

Thanks Caltrane! Nice of you to leave a message.... been a bit of a drought here on SSP for me this past month with hardly anyone leaving me a message so it is great to get the feedback!
Use any pix you like on your msn!

Taller - As usual, fantastic pictures...nice to see some warm weather shots.

Also, I don't know what I was looking at all that time I spent in TO, because that old CIBC building is fantastic! The collection of beautiful old buildings is amazing there...I must've always been staring at the CN Tower (still love it!).

With showing Greektown, it would be cool to get some shots of the other ethnic areas, since TO is so diverse - I loved going down to Madras Dosa hut (i think its gone now?) and Lahore Tikka House on Gerard...

Anyhow - Can't wait to see some more (and see if TO gets into Spring before Calgary!)

Glad you liked the pix! The old Commerce Court building is amazing, and waaay back nearer the beginning of the thread I have a fair number of interior pictures taken during Doors Open. Also, many of Toronto's neighbourhoods are back there too, but I will be re-photographing them this summer with my new camera.

@Lord Mandeep.. thanks for popping by! Yes, the Greek community here has much to be proud of!

I got an SLR- Pentax K10D, and also a telephoto lens. Beauty of a camera but I am slowly learning all about it!

^Cool camera! Enjoy! I bought a Rebel Digital two years ago (with a 200mm lens as well, and some filters), and have taken thousands of pics - some are actually good :-) Hopefully I can get out more this year and get some different angles of Calgary that may not have been done...

I'd really like to upgrade in the next year or two. One thing that's really big now are the "dust" shakers on the CCD/CMOS...nice features.

You have a great eye, so looking forward to seeing your viewpoints of TO through your new lenses!

Yes, my Pentax K10 has a dust shaker. It is an extremely cool camera so I am anxious to learn all about it. It is just so mind
bogglingly more sophisticated than my point and shoot Canon Powershot S21S that it has taken me aback, a bit. But I will learn all about it!! I didn't get the kit lenses, either.. so they are quite beautiful in themselves.

Thanks Derek loves SD!

Here are a few night pics I snapped last night after work, whilst touring around on my bike. Just some random shots downtown.

A renovation is currently underway at the Art Gallery of Ontario, by architect Frank Gehry:

some of the charming Victorian houses across the street from the Art Gallery:

a couple of shots of Will Alsop's OCAD building (Ontario College of Art and Design):

in a way it reminds me of those monsters that chased Tom Cruise down the street in War of the Worlds....

a neighbourhood church in the moonlight:

a typical Victorian building on Queen Street. I stopped in for dinner at the
Queen Mother across the street from this:

and finally a nice, small project in my own neighbourhood... the new Children's Aid Society building... perfectly scaled for the small park it is in:

and a final picture of a little gargoyl guarding this old Victorian house!

^^ LOL! Yes, it has been quite a hit with the arty types! It is one of those
Love it or Hate it buildings. I think it is amazing, and so much fun to go up top inside.... and really, if you think of it, it is a perfection of the Corbusier ideals of raising a building up to allow green space underneath. This has an entire grassed area underneath that is used by the students! A few more pics from my cycling home after work tonight:

and the new cool lighting on 137 Yonge Street!:

^^ Glad you liked it! I have "connections", as they say! Next month when it is nice and green I will take day pictures from the same location.

Today's pictures are a bit different, and probably not everyone's cup of tea. I went to Allan Gardens yesterday, and practiced a bit of photography with my new camera, thus these are mostly flora and fauna pix.. but when we are waiting for summer, sometimes it is nice to step into a conservatory and enjoy the sights:

There is always two ways of looking at the same scene!
