TORONTO: City views from the CN Tower

Just so happened to be in Toronto over the Christmas weekend visiting family and friends... (Thanks, Megabus!) The following are some photos I took the other day while I was on a patented Miketoronto tour of the views from the CN Tower. These include both the main observation level (height: 1136') and the Skypod (height: 1465'). Other than perhaps the Burj Dubai, I believe the Skypod is the tallest public observation level in the world. Without a doubt, Toronto has one hell of a sea of highrises!

Also are a few shots taken out of my hotel room window, as well as a few of some of our fellow SSPers... At any rate, hope you enjoy!

Aaron (Glowrock)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

From my hotel room:

Toronto Islands:

Toronto City Airport:

Count the tower cranes???

Pardon the reflection from the coating on windows...

Highrises as far as the eye can see!

My hotel was on the bottom right of this photo... Not too shabby!

Looking north:

Northeast:

What a skyline!

Main part of the CBD:

Looking down at the main observation level from the Skypod:

SkyDome, now the Rogers Centre:

Union Station train shed from above:

Looking east along the Gardiner Expwy:

Looking down through the glass floor!

Future Ripley's Aquarium:

My host for the afternoon:

Me, of course!

Ran into someone else in Toronto!

Skyline:

Done!

Awesome! I haven't been up in the tower in years, this is inspiring me to take my camera up there on a nice, clear day sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys! The views from up there are without doubt spectacular, even though they're somewhat tempered by the high cost of admission ($20 for the main observation deck, another $10 for the Skypod!). Especially on a clear, cold winter day, you can see for what seems like forever from up there. At least with Miketoronto's binoculars, I could see the nuclear plant out beyond Oshawa, along with a bit of Hamilton on the other side. Not too shabby!

thanks! great views. It's been decades since I was in the CN tower. I think I went one of the first years it was open. Toronto looks so much more built-up now. I can see the Art Gallery of Ontario (pic #14 in the middle) which I visited last January. It's a must-see, wonderfully re-designed/re-imagined by Frank Gehry, who apparently grew up in that neighborhood. Greatest collection of Henry Moore sculptures!

I stayed in that exact same hotel once many years ago when it first opened, Holiday Inn on King St., room 1914. Hell from the view in that first pic it looks like you had nearly the same room.

Close! I was in 1714! (And it's now a Hyatt Regency Hotel. Probably went through substantial upgrades/improvements. Modern as hell inside now!)

TIFF Tower has never looked as good as it does in these photos, IMO!

Also, is one of the towers of the TD Centre getting a reclad? (the one with the jet black top portion of the building with the faded out black below)

Great shots!

Here are two videos that show the observation decks and restaurant at the CN Tower around the time they opened in 1976. Also some links to illustrations and pictures of the observation decks and revolving restaurant in 1976. https://fb.watch/i-QomcXB8q/ https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/5-thin...blic-1.2438403 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.the...niversary.html https://torontoist.com/2011/06/opening_the_cn_tower/ https://www.theglobeandmail.com/mult...ticle22820631/
