I could hear everything just fine, and while I noticed that area didn't have ceiling tiles, it doesn't look bad or wrong in any way. In fact it came up in discussion in our group as we walked through, and we all settled on the idea that they needed ceiling tiles where they have them because people are closer to the ceiling and it will help avoid reverb there. The uncovered part is only in areas where the floor is very far away from the ceiling, so I highly doubt it's going to cause any sort of significant echo solely for the fact that the ceiling there is too far away from any humans. Again, everything sounded fine to me when I visited, and the announcements were clear when made.

Well could the sound problem be a location issue? Could all of the people who couldn’t hear have been in one area and vice versa? It seems that for every person who couldn’t hear, there was someone who could.

The Omni project looks real nice, if it had a little more Glass in the design it would be even better. I’m excited to see the cranes in the air for this project.

Could be. I don't remember exactly where I was when I heard announcements, or if it was always in the same area or not. Maybe it's something as simple as some speakers not being online yet during the open houses, who knows.

CITY, RTA PARTNER TO IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY AT SIX TRANSIT STATIONS
NEW ORLEANS – In early November, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will begin an approximately $300,000, two-month project to improve access for people with disabilities at six area transit stations. The improvements were designed by the RTA and will be constructed by a DPW maintenance contractor. The RTA selected stations at major intersections and at the beginning/end of the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line.

The following stations will be upgraded:

St. Charles Avenue and Napoleon Avenue
St. Charles Avenue and Louisiana Avenue
St. Charles Avenue and Jackson Avenue
Carrollton Avenue and Claiborne Avenue
St. Charles Avenue and Carrollton Avenue
Carondelet Street and Canal Street
Enhancements will include additional concrete around the transit stop, a ramp and turnaround area for wheelchair access and detectable warning surfaces that alert visually-impaired individuals of an approach to street crossings and hazardous drop-offs.

Since I'm not an architect, designer, or engineer, I'd like to know what you all think of the look of the convention center hotel. I like it, but then I'm from a generation when The Jetsons was the modern look in buildings. I'm not sure why the building reminded me of that show.

The main squeeze is a tiny tenant relatively ... so probably both. I just saw matador filings to redo that corner entrance with the hdlc. Thats a large space. I noticed something for a nail salon too.

Honestly its a tad hard to judge because the rendering quality isnt the best... but the overall shape and design of hotel is pretty good for a convention center hotel. More detail is needed for a final judgement imho

Two men’s clothing retailers are coming to the South Market neighborhood this fall. Q Clothier and Rye 51, retailers under the parent company, Q51 are expanding to New Orleans with their ninth location. With a focus on creating a well-curated shopping experience for men, Q Clothier will specialize in custom-made men’s clothing while also offering a selection of ready-to-wear tailored pieces and accessories. Its counterpart, Rye 51 will offer an assortment of small-batch men’s casual clothing.

The Q Clothier experience begins when patrons schedule a fitting. The initial consultation includes fabric selection, garment design, and a proprietary measurement process with a seasoned clothier who serves as a personal clothing concierge. After 4-6 weeks, clients are invited back for a final fitting to try their garments and to make note of any adjustments. Once the pattern profile is established, it is kept on file for easy reordering.

Customers looking for a more casual shopping experience can visit Rye 51, which will be situated directly next to Q Clothier and offer small-batch styles of polo shirts, knits, tees, pants, denim, outerwear, and more.

Q Clothier and Rye 51 will open in November 2019 inside of The Standard at South Market along O’Keefe Avenue. It will join the newly-opened Otra Vez restaurant, Fidelity Bank, and Eustis Mortgage.

“We’re excited to announce our next location in Downtown New Orleans’ South Market,” said Raja Ratan, founder and owner of Q51. “I have always loved the city for its culture, food, and most of all, its people. We feel it is the perfect location for our Q Clothier and Rye 51 brands.”

We’re happy to welcome these exciting new men’s clothing retailers as they ease and enhance the shopping experience for men in South Market, Downtown New Orleans, and beyond.

Speaking of hotels, any update on Harrah's? Though they had a pretty tight deadline once the deal was signed but haven't heard anything since.

I’m my own personal opinion, it looks like it belongs on Las Vegas Blvd or at the least somewhere with west of the Mississippi with a casino attached but if everyone else loves it so be it.

I’ve always felt that buildings in New Orleans should take cues from the older Northeastern and Midwestern cities that are similar in age and feel (while maintaining and N.O. feel) vs trying to build the type of crap you see going up in Houston, Atlanta, and all the other relatively new sunbelt cities. That works in Metairie or even in The East, but not so much when you put it next to the building stock in the older parts of the city.

They have already started site prep for dorm so that timeframe sounds right on the money

Morial Convention Center attracts these 5 groups seeking to develop its 'entertainment district'

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...c2154bc35.html

...Those chosen to be interviewed are: Atomic Entertainment; the Domain Companies; River Park Neighborhood Investors; Provident Realty Advisors, McDonnel Construction Services and Provident Resources Group; and a joint venture between Woodward, Leventhal, and Carpenter & Company.

Center officials plan to interview all five and announce Nov. 26 the two or three finalists that will be invited to submit full proposals by Jan. 17.

“We are very pleased with the amount of interest and the number of qualified firms responding," said Convention Center President and General Manager Michael Sawaya.

"These 40 acres are some of the last undeveloped urban real estate in the country, and will be one of the most important and transformative developments for New Orleans and Louisiana in decades,” he added.

Thats an amazingly qualified group of five... id be fine if they invited all five to submit and respond to rfp...great to see a project like this attract such heavy hitters, that can only mean good things long term for the quality and creativity of the proposals. Also, the Convention Centers approach to breaking the project up a bit appears to have been a wise decision

ALso, I read the City Budget Presentation for New Orleans Building Corporation:Glad to see seeking redevelopment of the Piazza is back on the agenda for next year. with the qualified parties for the Convention Center that expressed interests that can only mean good things for redevelopments like this that will be seeking interested parties next year
