Amazing that the Blue Jackets are in there with those legendary teams.

Edmonton's schedule has been probably the easiest stretch of the season, but still impressive.

Who said no to whom though? I think that was more a Hamilton in the early 90's scenario when Tim Hortons balked at the asking price (which I bet they wish they had taken now). My recollection of QC was if they had been willing to pay what Vegas did, they would have come in the league at the same time. Which again, looking back, does PKP now wish he had paid $500million US?

I think Ron Joyce balked at paying it all in one shot. He had proposed two payments, and the league walked and went with the Ottawa option (no arena at the time) and Tampa (another incomplete proposition)

But Joyce was set up to lose. No way a team was coming here, and no way they would have stayed, as the powers that be decided the fate of the league.

Can the Oil make it a sweet 16?

-Perry debut (Mcleod and Hollywood)
-Unreal goaltending on both sides
-Oilers traditionally suck at afternoon starts
-Hyman gets 1-2 more to keep pace?

Rather convincing return to form for Ilya Samsonov and the Leafs over Winnipeg tonight to sweep the double header. A thorough performance this time, much better than the nail biter TML didn't really deserve in the first match. Samsonov and Tavares are both slaying demons this weekend.

Cause the team is incapable of scoring without Mark Scheifele. We need to get a legit 2C desperately. I really hope we get Lindholm at the deadline.

The Quebec and Hamilton scenarios had nothing in common. Ron Joyce wanted to pay the expansion fee for Hamilton in 2 installments instead of in full up front (which cost him the expansion bid), whereas Quebecor was publicly fully committed to paying the $500m USD and made it to the final phase of the expansion bid along with Vegas, before getting "deferred" by the NHL due to the $CAD being worth $0.68 USD at the time, as well as the concerns about geographic imbalance, which is why they left the door open for Seattle.

How come the Sens and the oil are 4-5 games behind everyone else?

Who/what makes this shit schedule ? There is zero reason for that big of a difference between GP's.

The oil have 16 wins in a row, and yet are still only 3rd in their division, mostly because of that discrepancy in GPs (and a bit because of their poor start as well).

Would you rather they had played more games while they sucked at the start of the year?

Top 10 baby! We are going to catch Vegas and have 5 games in hand to do just that starting right after the break.

Yes.

I’m not an oil or sens fan. Quite the contrary. I’m just saying there is no reason for such a big discrepancy of GP’s between teams. It’s only a few years it’s like this. Seems to me the number of games played between teams was much tighter pre-pandemic.

It’s all over the place now.

Doesn’t each team get a week off now (in season)?
Perhaps that is why the discrepancy.

For the Sens, they played in Sweden in November for a week and likely had a week off before and after (that week also included American thanksgiving).

That's a bullshit argument. For the games in Australia I would understand, but a jump across the pond to Europe, especially for an East Coast team, is an non-issue. A flight from Ottawa to LAX to face Anaheim or the Kings can take 6+ hours in winter. That's almost as long as a flight from Ottawa to Stockholm.

Also, Detroit and Minnesota were in Sweden as well, and yet they have 49 GPs. The leafs were there too and they have 2 more GPs than the Sens.

Maybe it's because the team is based in Ottawa and all the bad habits of a government city and its workers are rubbing off on them ! i.e they're not doing shit and getting paid for it.
