Next morning we decided to explore eastside of Midtown. Our first stop was at the world-famous Macy's department store to check out their historic wooden escalators.
Walking by the Empire State Building is always such a treat.
I have always loved the 500 Fifth Avenue, which is another art deco skyscraper nearby.
New York Public Library is a must-see while walking along Fifth Avenue. This beautiful building replaced a massive drinking water reservoir that stood on its site.
Inside the building is even more majestic.
Further up Fifth Avenue is St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Almost opposite of it is Rockefeller Center which we would explore more on another day.
From here it is only a short walk to Grand Central Terminal, which is a really busy terminus station for local commuter trains.
The main station hall has a famous clock in the middle. It has always been a popular meeting spot.
Next we would walk down to the shores of East River, where there would be more sights to see. More photos on my next update.
Continuing further east on 42nd Street there are some nice green pocket parks to be found.
The iconic Chrysler Building is the highlight of 42nd Street urban canyon.
This 319-metre (1,046ft) tall art deco masterpiece was the tallest building in the world for only 11 months.
The surrounding area has changed significantly in the last 80 years.
There are many details on the facade.
Building's lobby is worth seeing for its warm colors.
United Nations headquarters stands 39 floors tall on the banks of the East River. Back in 2011 there was a major facade renovation ongoing.
Inside, the General Assembly Hall is where a lot of important speeches have been made.
Security Council Hall is where world politics is being discussed.
An authentic Nobel Prize.
This tower next door is surrounded by glass.
Trump World Tower was the tallest residential building in the world (262m | 861ft) for some time and its sleek look has always been a favorite of mine.
Love your pictures—especially the close detailing of the Flatiron facade and the interiors of the NY Public Library & Chrysler Building! Excellent presentation of NYC!

Very nice, the interior shots are beautiful too. Does anyone think New York looked better before all the skinny supertalls were added?
Yeah, I am not very fond of them either, but projects like Hudson Yard are fantastic and add amazingly to the skyline.

Thank you! Old buildings have such lovely details, especially those build in the art deco style. I wish that trend would have lasted a bit longed than the 1930s.
