LOL! Too funny, as I work in the industry, I had to look back, as I just read it as words and didn't realize the initial post was in codes!

OK, next time provide a glossary of acronyms. I work in government and have my own set. I've learned to assume that no one else knows what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I wish we had a direct flight to the Caribbean or someplace else tropical (other than Hawaii). Hawaii is fine and all, but I want choices!

this is good news. The PDX-ORD is underserved if you are loyal to AS.
A good change. Like the 1:15 departure to ORD. That's good to see.

thumbs up!

as someone who has to do this 8-10 times a year, this should bring fares down considerably. although i hope that i'm never on the AA metal.

Port of Portland spokesman Josh Thomas described the atmosphere at PDX today as "abuzz" after Delta Airlines quietly announced that, beginning this August, they will add year-round daily service between Portland and Paris, France as well as four flights per week to Beijing, China.

...

Richard Anderson, chief executive of Delta Airlines, said this afternoon that "these new flights will cement our presence in the Portland region and reinforce our belief that Portland is a growing and dynamic city and an international destination for business and recreation".

...

Thomas indicated that "forces have been aligning for several years now" to expand the region's international connections. "Recently we've received inquiries from many different international airlines, including British Airways, Mexicana, Qantas, Emirates, and even Lufthansa", he said. While not every airline that studies the Portland market will establish a presence here, Thomas said that there is a "strong likelihood" that we'll have direct connections to Mexico City and another European city, most likely London or Frankfurt, "within a year".

...

That's the problem with April Fools jokes. A few of them are funny. The majority of them are mean.

No intention of being mean. The fun thing about April Fool's jokes is that they're a chance to stretch the ol' imagination and test the waters of believability. With this little not-very-clever one I tried to drop a few nuggets of extreme unlikeliness (Qantas, Emirates, Beijing) so that you guys would laugh rather than get angry. Luckily, I would describe the response as "muted" or "resigned", so thank you for that zilfondel and 2oh1

This April Fool's joke yesterday got me for about a minute. The reaction in the comments is over the top. I laughed while other people threatened murder.

Flew PDX-NRT with delta this week en route china.
The new 763ER is soooo much better than the old version.

Big step up with ptv, new bins.

Flying home Sunday in biz and looking forward to the new lie flat seats there too. Big improvement and a nice way to get to Asia for sure.

Alaska Airlines Announces Nonstop PDX-Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth Service

Starting August 26, 2013 and September 16,2013 respectively

http://splash.alaskasworld.com/Newsr...502_060459.asp

SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines will begin new service between Portland, Ore., and Atlanta starting Aug. 26 and between Portland and Dallas/Fort Worth starting Sept. 16, 2013.

"With today's announcement, we will have committed to eight new routes from Portland within the last 12 months as we continue expansion of this hub," said Andrew Harrison, Alaska Airlines' vice president of planning and revenue management. "With these new flights to Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth, our Portland-area customers will not only enjoy two new nonstop destinations, but seamless connecting opportunities throughout North America via our partners Delta Air Lines and American Airlines at their respective hubs in Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth."

This is more good news. Although it doesn't open up any new routes not already available to AS people (many were hoping for PDX-EWR), it does allow more frequency to important places.

I had been toying with switching from AS to Delta because of the reach that Delta has. But, as AS and Delta provide a more seamless experience (actually getting sky priority from europe back to US, etc)...

And now AS is really adding lots of routes to PDX, I'm going to stick.
Love AS, always have, and this just makes it easier.

Wonder aloud about a PDX-JFK on AS. Would be nice to see some upgrade possibilities on that route compared to sitting in back with DL.

Go Alaska!

Here's a question: does anyone know if Alaska has its sights on international flights to Europe/Asia in the future? That could be PDX's best bet, I'd imagine, in terms of getting some additional overseas routes. Doesn't seem like Delta is chomping at the bit to add a flight to Paris, that's for sure.

I could see it, do the larger 737s have enough fuel capacity to make it to Asia, let alone Europe? I'd like to see them expand in Canada first though.

never say never, but that is likely the last thing on Alaska's mind.
The 737s don't have the range for TATL or TransPac (with mid winter jetstream, they often have to gas up in OAK to make it to Hawaii).

Alaska has been very successful partnering with other airlines (Delta in particular) that can handle the international routes.

AS many years ago had some routes from Alaska, so there is always the idea at some point that the 737s could do ANC to .... super east coast of Russia again. I just really doubt that in the next 10 years.

Imagine they will keep connecting the dots and would expect to see them into south america or yes, a few more spots in Canada, before anything further afield.

After that... who knows.

I fly Alaska to Hawaii (Maui) at least once a year, and we've always gone nonstop. Actually leaving Thursday, woot!

just booked a trip to South America this fall using the new Alaska flight thru DFW.
Departure time was better than American's own PDX-DFW runs.

That was good timing for Alaska to announce this!
Now I'll see if I can do a PDX-ATL run with Alaska later this year.

Love our hometown airline!
