@Ritsma delivers the sod... and I'm sobbing. Who in the world approved this? It'll be trampled over in a few weeks.

I'll just place my own bloody trees and rocks there. Tactical urbanism right?

Absolutely terrible use of such an important corner downtown. I honestly think this is one of the worst Vranich projects yet, and thats saying a lot.

I'm honestly trying to think of a worse project in the entire city... We need hotels, but come on. This is just hideous.

I mean yea - I’m excited to finally have a second non-extended stay hotel downtown, but man.

I’d still love to see a true 4 star hotel open up downtown. Hamilton finally has one in the wider region with the Pearle hotel in Burlington opening.. but one downtown would be even better. I guess I should just be happy that there is finally going to be a regular old 3-star property that isn’t 50 years old and showing it’s age.

Are you kidding me? Just a sod corner? I am speechless. What kind of horseshit planning approvals process let this sail through? I genuinely cannot believe this was proposed for an important corner on a major street in one of the larger cities in the country and the City would say "good enough, approved".

I think that's from the LRT design. That corner has an allowance for a very wide turn arc. It's from the stage of planning where westbound traffic (including heavy truck traffic) was to use Cannon/ Queen/ King to bypass the LRT corridor through the core. Not as necessary given new truck routes and two-way plans, but probably still on the books. The developers probably can't do anything on that corner.
The extra space might be handy to help with turns and LRT/ bus connections when Queen St N is converted to two-way operation.

I doubt this curb cut will occur now that Queen is no longer a truck route

It looks like the hotel part is nearly complete and will be open for business next Friday, August 25th.

it seems odd that they are planting evergreens SO CLOSE to the building - are these types that grow more up vs out?

Didn't get a photo but they appear to have begun putting up forms for the 25 story tower. If someone is in the area an can grab photos.

In light of the rental tower starting construction again, let's bring up the renders:

At least in the renders they showed the copious amounts of spandrel panel.
