I rather like the CMHC logo. It's no VIA (classic) logo, but the shape is simple and gets the point across.

The owl may have been a tad fugly, but I enjoyed it as a kid and still do.

There's still two locations I know of with a Mac's branding....one along Eglinton Ave in Midtown Toronto, and another right near Mississauga's "downtown".

Going back to the thread at hand...I kind of like the logo of 7-11...it's a simple blend of three colours that makes a concise logo.

And....one logo that I could never understand as a kid was the Hudson's Bay logo. I always misinterpreted the squiggle as either a B or an M...though part of me enjoys the logo for being a tad unreadable yet a tad elegant. The new logo is nice with the two moose and all...I'm alright with it.
Former Hudson's Bay logo (1960-2013)

Newer Hudson's Bay logo (2013-present)
I always saw a weird face, or crumpled kleenex or something in addition to the M resemblance.

Here's a new welcome sign being installed:

I'm always surprised at how basic Calgary's welcome signs are. They don't look much more permanent than a roadside "Coming Soon" sign.

We have a series of "Saskatoon Shines!" entry points, each in a different organic/earthy tone, and they illuminate nicely at night:

Woow! I love those Saskatoon signs. A great gold colour and a nice simple yet landmark-like shape to that sign.

Ours were clearly designed for a cinema canteen. I'm surprised no one has put giant straws or popcorn in them yet.

The old one was great. Kinda let you know exactly what you were getting, the good and the bad.

I don't even think Montreal has a 'welcome sign'. It doesn't seem to be a prominent thing in Quebec in general.

I was just thinking that I haven't seen one in Montreal aside from the sign on every bridge reminding you not to turn right on reds on the island:

There isn't much in Toronto either except for the standard MTO style city limits with population sign:

In general having ornate welcome signs seems more of a thing done in smaller communities. To boost their brand, I'd imagine.

Are you even allowed to use those two words in the same sentence?

Sadly they probably are a coming soon sign. We waited like a decade hearing about a re-branding and that's all we got. Due to the lack of cowboy hat I'll take it!

Small rural towns do but Montreal doesn't.

Definitely. I did some time at small-town newspapers and that's literally the conversation when these types of projects come up.

It's even on "Avenue de l'Accueil", so you can't get more welcoming than that!

I don't see anything controversial, nation does not necessarily mean country...

Definition according to the Oxford Dictionary: A large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular state or territory.

I think Quebecers are pretty much that.

Ottawa (though they're temporarily replaced by Ottawa 2017 signs at the moment).
