Agreed! It's a city I see every day here on Denscity's location but don't think I've ever seen more than a pic or two.

Urban fabric leaves a lot to be desired, but fantastic bridges and of course a spectacular setting.

Wow I had to really stare at it to figure out where that was. At first I thought it was a picture of somewhere else that had been mislabel. The only thing that looks familiar is the paving stone which I assume is on Argyle. That highrise must be so new that I've never seen it in person at that level of completion and I rarely spend any time on Argyle so it isn't very familiar either.

Yes it is on Argyle. Directly behind the camera is the Nova Centre. The highrise is the Roy, one block down on Barrington.

I still miss skyscrapers but Stockholm is an improvement over Copenhagen.

How does the cycling compare between the two cities?

And more importantly, how do they compare to the cities here??

Stockholm is a lot hillier and consists of islands joined by (often highway-like) bridges, so cycling is less popular as a transit mode. Recreational cycling around the city is far better, though, again because of the terrain.

They're really different I think. Stockholm is a real "pocket metropolis", meaning that when you are in its central neighbourhoods it has a busy, ornate, infrastructure-intensive "European capital" feel that vanishes instantly and turns into planned modern developments and SFH once you are off the main archipelago.

Copenhagen is spread more evenly and doesn't build to as much of a peak in the core, but it has more 19th-century "streetcar suburbs".

Both cities are about as big as Vancouver 20 years ago overall, so not huge. Instead of having a skyline there to signify their scale, you have the infrastructure tangle. This is Stockholm's rail map; it's pretty intense for a metro of maybe 2.3 million:

I don't honestly feel like Stockholm gives too much up to even Toronto in experience terms (it's different... there is less of that Ellis Island multiplicity and extreme commercial heft, but it's a capital so you get that feel with the government, central bank, embassies etc.) , but I do get homesick and I love coming home each summer and crossing the Cartier/driving in on the Gardiner. You can take the boy out of Canada...

The stadium is such a beast. It's almost like one of those Yugoslav monuments.

Was just scrolling through and had the same thought. Could also be something out of a dystopian video game or something (in a good way) - looks almost otherworldly given the right vantage point.
