Any idea why they chose to call this "North Station"? I'm not aware of any "station" being at that location.

Although Gladstone Street didn't exist as such at the time, the 1878 Atlas just shows it as a residential area with small lots and presumably houses on site. No sign of a train station, or street railway station, stage coach station, etc...

Not a big deal, actually, as a lot of buildings receive nonsense names. I was just curious if this name was actually paying tribute to some historical location, but apparently not.

From 2009 google maps streetview, it looks like the site may have been an automotive service station at some point, so there's that...

Looks more like a former Dunkins or Robins Donuts to me.

It might be a reference to the old Acadian Lines bus station.

"North Donuts" doesn't have the same ring to it, though...

I thought of the Acadian Lines station, but that was down the street a bit. Maybe close enough that we could give it to them...

The street names on that map are really interesting.

Now-defunct streets that used to intersect with Almon in this area: Arctic, Polar and Indian.

There was no Robie St back then. The part heading south from where it once intersected/merged with Kempt when I was a little kid near Macara St was just a continuation of Kempt Rd southbound. The part of current-day Robie north of that was Longard Rd, fascinating. What we now know as May St. used to be Mary St.

Slight difference in detail from the rendering on their site. I wonder if they will be adding in any colour.

Wow. The ground floor looks terrible compared to the renders.

Yikes - I didn't catch that at first but damn you're right. The Almon St. side looks awful from street level.

It wouldn't be at all surprising if this ended up looking worse than the renders (and I hate the prefab white panels that are every new building--just use a masonry veneer, for god's sake) but I'll definitely withhold final judgement 'til it's done.

I was referring to the curtain wall on the ground floor in the renderings vs. the few small windows we got in reality. Seems like a big change.

Oh yeah, on the Almon side for sure. Not great.
