Buffalo, New York - University Heights

The University Heights neighborhood is in the Northeastern part of the city limits, adjacent to the State University of NY at Buffalo South Campus, generally known as UB. The University was founded as the University of Buffalo in 1846 by former President Millard Fillmore, who made his home in the area. The area of the university is at the highest elevation within the city limits. The campus area was formerly the location of the Erie County Almshouse and Poor Farm until the late 1800s, when it relocated to Forest Avenue, and UB acquired the land and buildings in 1909.

Abbott Hall, which serves as the Health and Medical Science Library, occupies the highest location in the city limits.

Metro rail underground station joins the area to downtown and the Medical Campus to the south:

Niagara Fall Boulevard begins at Main Street and the campus, and was the primary road to the Falls prior to the construction of the Grand Island Bridges.
