Recruitment Agencies

When I arrive I will need to hit the recruitment agencies with a vengance, as there doesn't seem to be many IT related jobs advertised online. They might not exist that readily in Hamilton.

I did a quick google and came up with the following list. If anyone knows anything positive or negative about these firms, that would be good to know. If anyone knows which of these would be more suited towards IT related fields, that would be helpful. If anyone knows of any recruitment agencies that would be suitable, which I have missed, please add them to the list.

Thanks!

Regrettably, my partner and I had to leave Hamilton because of a lack of work. We would have happily stayed had there been some form of financial sustenance to keep us. Our experience with the various agencies was not a positive one - even with a couple years of financial administrative experience and a masters degree.

Good luck though. If you do land a job through an agency, let us know on the forum which agency you were going through. Given the chance, I'd love to return to Ontario.

Where did you end up?

If I can't find work in Hamilton, I'll look to Toronto. Luckily after spending between 2 - 7 hours a day on a train for the last almost three years, I'm not put off by a commute.

You're not even staying in the province?

That's a great list. I need to do about a month and a half of temp admin this summer to "fill in the gaps" so that's a great resource for me too. Thanks.

Cool. If it helps you and anyone else, then that's great! I love good karma!

As I find more, I'll add them to the list and when I visit each one, if they are specialised in some way, I'll add notes.

I was wondering if I should include Stoney Creek agencies, as I've only really chosen ones in Hamilton that I can easily walk to?

Have added a few more, ones which I discounted for myself, but might be ideal for someone else and two recommended by my sister-in-law seeing as one got her, her job and one helped her hire her Office Assistant.

Just in time for Hamilton to get improved GO Train service, too!

The decision to choose Hamilton wasn't random

You could jump on a B-line (which usually turns in to a Stoney Creek local service, IIRC) and be there without much trouble.

But keep checking the Mac jobs - it's a pretty chilled place overall (although my own current workload is redlining - not for long, and I'll get the time back which suits me fine - used to English amounts of vacation time, and all that!)

Yea, you get 15 days or 3 weeks of vacation time when you start, CAW. But work can get hectic at McMaster. Some days it's nonstop.

yup. but on the other hand, I've just come back from a nice leisurely lunch in the pub (although that second pint was probably a bad move, especially as I now have a meeting with some fairly - well, scrap that, *very* more like it! - senior managers in about 15 mins.

god, its just like working in central London again - but without the corporate crap

(totally lost any tolerance for more than a pint at lunchtime, though. sheesh)

I will. The issue that I currently have is the lack of full on paperwork. You have to have a job offer before you can apply for a work permit and my residency visa, while 2 and a half plus years in the pipeline, still hasn't come through. The immigration lawyer is actually on the case at last!

My brother is of the belief that somewhere like Mac or anything education/public sector will employ someone with the paperwork in place long before they'll look at anyone else.
