I mean, are we really upset that a gal or guy so loves buildings in Chicago that he created a blog about it? We're all on the same team, I suppose.

Anyway, here's a release from GEMS last year about their upper school (grades 9-12) plans. They intend to have their first group of 9th graders in the fall of 2017 (as in, this September) with the first graduates in 2021. I assume they can host the first class or two of 9th and 10th graders in the current building before expanding to the new building in the fall of 2019. Starting construction around now makes sense.

When they stopped using the Gems 2 land for staging for Vista I think alot of us felt that it was going to get going sooner than later. So I wouldnt be surprised if drills start dropping by the end of the year. I'm still stoked to see three cranes operating in such a tight space.

We aren't against Editor because he has a blog. We find him annoying because of all the times he's made backhanded comments at people here at skyscraperpage and skyscrapercity. He's a prick

Two workers at once?!?! What a novel idea, those two workers are moving this site along twice as fast as that one guy who was doing it before. They even managed to get the correct above grade.

^ I think my contractor has more workers on site rehabbing a 5-flat than these guys.

At this rate, the project will be completed in 2035

For two workers, they've actually accomplished an impressive amount!

Excavator was delivered to GEMS II site earlier today. Maybe this thing really is kicking off. Curbed mentions the CA blog article in a short story they had today but references the fact that so far no permits have been issued. GEMS did receive foundation construction permits back in March 2015. Would they still be good to go or would they have to be re-issued?

Permits last 24 months, but I believe it is possible to get them extended for a fee.

Does anyone know if the Gibsons at Riverpoint is open yet? That rooftop view is going to be amazing to have a meal or a drink at.

Yeah, every once in awhile I've seen reinstatement permits that were more than 2 years old for new construction. Doesn't happen a lot, but I've seen it. Also in the last year, there's been what's called Direct Developer Permits where the permit doesn't even show up in the public listings as pending. Wanda Vista is an example of that so it's totally possible for you to not find anything in the city records one day and literally the next there's a permit issued.

Isn't the roof height of the Wanda Vista going to be around 9 meters taller then the trump's without the spire? If so, it'll definitely appear to be the second tallest in Chicago

If you mean the Wanda Vista, which has a roof height of 1,191ft. The Trump Tower roof sits at 1,171ft, so a difference of 20ft. The Wanda Vista is approximately 2,500ft behind the Trump Tower in this photo. So I don't feel my height choice was too bad in the photo.
