And, interesting that another new hotel may be on its way to greater McCormick-land with this project. Hotel development has actually surprised me to the downside this year - as far as new project announcements/launches. Sure, launch of Marriott Marquis is big, as it will be one of the larger hotels in the greater core, but I'd have thought we'd have an additional few new ones surface this year, given how tremendously strong hotel performance data have been (despite the new supply being added thus far this cycle).....I've got to think we're on the cusp of at least a few - if not a half-dozen or so - significant new project announcements (or construction starts in cases where zoning may already be in place).....I know they're out there........next 6 months I'd say we'll see more activity kicking-up in hotel development......
Yes^ but, I believe, it is hard to overstate the kinda of underreported wave of Class C (or D) office space in the loop being converted to hotels... you, Sam, of all people must realize the long tern (positive) implications of this for future development... I'll take a few of these over a new mega hotel any day...

Oh - without a doubt - they should not be overlooked in any way, and they are critically important to the evolving long-term vitality of the Loop......

But, I don't know if we've gotten any new adaptive re-use announcements/launches in the last two or three quarters also.......on this front, I think Reschke is looking to launch renovation for his Canopy by Hilton project (same building, upper floors, as his JW Marriott), and it will be interesting to see if John Murphy decides to go hotel with his Oriental Theater office building - which I think would be a great fit).......there are of course at least a few for which construction got underway last year, and are yet to open - Londonhouse, Kimpton LaSalle St, etc - and those that have recently opened - Hampton Inn Motor Club, Hilton Garden Inn, etc.....

It does feel like there are still these brands out there - SLS is one I often come back to, as I think they've even stated they want to get a Chicago hotel open by 2017, which I think needs to now likely be at least 2018 - but there are others as well, that really want to break into, or expand in Chicago (and are likely to be in new construction), but have yet to apparently tie-down deals and make announcements/launch their projects......

Not to be overlooked, I do know that Viceroy must be preparing to start demo/site work fairly soon, and of course Wanda Vista hotel also at that 5-star, upper-upscale segment will presumably be breaking ground in 2016........I also always keep coming back to why in the world is it taking Magellan so long to tie-down their hotel deals and get construction started at parcel "O" in LSE.......that, to me, is a real head-scratcher........honestly, for them, they should not be having this much difficulty/delay (unless they need to work in an amendment specific to parcel O as part of the overall LSE PD and Vista Tower-specific changes that are apparently kicking off with Plan Commission next month).....................speaking of site "O", you don't know anything new on that, do you, Mr Arch?

I'm wondering if a hotel could be a viable reuse option for Thompson Center?

Thank you for the project updates Solarwind. The Hojo tower - is that a top down project? I can't believe they are above ground already. As I don't live in Chicago I haven't been by the site.

I'd bet my next paycheck that the building will be razed to make way for a significant development. It's too tasty of a parcel, with the CTA superstation, proximity to the theater district, River North, etc. I would be shocked if the winning bidder didn't propose a supertall with a hotel and condos/apartments. The site has limitless potential, the only drawback is the albatross that's currently there. It would also be a great opportunity to make a nicer transit hub.

I think it's a good opportunity to make up for Block 37's shortcomings.

I saw no indications that it was going to be top-down, more like no basement.

Excellent National Coverage of TOD/Evanston and Chicago

WHAT WORKS - "The Suburb That Tried To Kill the Car: Evanston was failing as a suburb, so it reinvented itself as a mini city. Now the city of Chicago wants to follow its lead," by T.R. Goldman: "Downtown Evanston ... is ... missing a lot of cars. Thanks to concerted planning, these new developments are rising within a 10-minute walk of two rail lines and half-a-dozen bus routes. The local automobile ownership rate is nearly half that of the surrounding area." http://politi.co/1R02Gqc ... 12-pic slideshow http://politi.co/1hZH4Os
