I could not find a thread for this, but I believe there is one. For now I will post this information here.
Article from thespec on St.Giles Church potential condo development:

Happy to see the church being kept in most of the options. It's good to see that advocacy group is getting their way.

I had a good laugh about the condo tower option when I read the Spec article.

Yeah, that would go over really well with both area residents and planning staff. Sore... meet thumb.

Why no options for keeping parts of the original church, while building complementary residential? I don't want to see the church completely gone (or given the "Santaguida treatment" like James Street Baptist church) but it's worth examining as an option, and may lead to productive discussions on a viable plan.

When I was looking deeper into "Hughson Business Space Corporation", they call it googling, I found a business website that represents portfolios for 23 millions companies world wide. On this page it described the details and such for the 18-22, 24 and 28 King St. E. strip, you can select Hamilton just above that and up comes a lot of companies (216) owning and operating within this City, just another resource of information one can use, unless this Forum knows of it already.

Not only is this the laziest article imaginable, but their research has got to be some of the worst out there. I don't even know where they found that render of the Beasley park lofts...

You're expecting more from BlogTO lol? It's the shittiest news website out of Toronto, pure click bait designed for your typical Vaughan moved 'downtown Toronto' kid.

The comments on these kinds of stories are always a fun read. The first one: "Imagine the potential allure of Hamilton for all sorts of industry if not for the heavy and dirty industry dominating the prime waterfront. It could be a much more amazing city given the natural beauty, proximity to wine country and the border while making it less dependent on a handful of big companies."

First of all, while the steel plants have always offered the worst view of the city for many who drive by (and clouded their opinions of the city), that steel has helped build Canada. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

Secondly, Hamilton IS less dependent on a handful of big companies. In fact it's swung the other way (too much, IMO) with institutions largely dominating the employment landscape and much more diversity in its economy.

Third, it doesn't seem like that commenter has ever been in the city itself. I'll give him kudos for trying to be positive, but still...

This big "For Sale" sign went up approximately two weeks ago next to the A&W on King St. W. Probably won't last too long. One big parking lot up next for some proper development.

It probably won't be long before that A&W is history... or perhaps incorporated into the ground floor of something new given the all the hungry residents that will be moving into the surrounding blocks in a few years.

Great article in the Spec about Hamilton's crazy upcoming construction boom.

I'll drop a few qoutes about certain projects in their respective threads.

Great that we're starting to see some progress on these. The next couple of years could be the busiest ever for building construction in Hamilton.

And as pointed out in the article, we can't forget the mid-rises. The bigger towers will change the skyline and certainly add people and tax revenue, but I think the builds of the 5-10 storey range all over the city are really the key to avoiding more sprawl or at least excessive sprawl that has been the norm for the past 4 decades or more.

Here's the link to the Google map of all the activity:

(it's a shame we can't embed those here)

Hmmm…. Not to be a downer but I’ve seen maybe half a dozen of similar articles about Hamilton over the past several years. I’ll believe it when these projects go on sale / start construction.

Yea, I'll reserve my hopes for a few of the projects (looking at you, The Connelly), but many I fully expect to happen.

It'll be interesting to see.

I think another driver will be single house lot (or may 2-3 house lot) redevelopments into 3-5 story small apartment buildings. That’s something that’s springing up all over inner Ottawa neighbourhoods.

Fengate & LiUNA are seeking to exceed the 30-storey downtown height limit as a minor variance.
If successful, this will effectively eliminate the height limit from the Downtown Hamilton Secondary Plan.

This project should receive an allowance for a height increase since it's a block from Hamilton GO Centre. Makes sense.

Forge and Foster have reported that TAS Design Build have purchased the historic former Coppley building at 56 York Blvd.

They're a thoughtful and high-quality developer IMO. Glad to see them take an interest in Hamilton and hopefully more will follow suit.

I wonder if that's why there was soil testing done at the corner of York and MacNab. Perhaps that parking lot is part of the sale, and the buyer wanted to know soil quality either before the sale as a condition, or checked right after buying and will be utilizing that property for a modern addition?
