First of all, while the steel plants have always offered the worst view of the city for many who drive by (and clouded their opinions of the city), that steel has helped build Canada. Nothing to be ashamed of there.
Secondly, Hamilton IS less dependent on a handful of big companies. In fact it's swung the other way (too much, IMO) with institutions largely dominating the employment landscape and much more diversity in its economy.
Third, it doesn't seem like that commenter has ever been in the city itself. I'll give him kudos for trying to be positive, but still...
