Single story office/commercial buildings need to be banned. We need DENSITY.

I'm just glad they're finally doing something with this site, although this seems like a likely candidate to be torn down in ~25 years if/when skyscrapers are allowed on the east side.

The University of Texas at Austin broke ground on a new graduate student housing building on the east side of campus in the historic Blackland neighborhood. University officials said it’s part of an effort to create more affordable housing options for students.

The building, which will be located at 21 Street between Comal and Leona Streets, will have 784 beds in studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts, UT officials said. There will also be public courtyards, an outdoor classroom, an amphitheater, a fitness center and study spaces.

I drive by this at least once a week, and it is by far the fastest contruction project I've seen. I see major progress every week. At this rate they'll finish before the year is over, and that's phenomenal for a project this size, I think.

Centro looks great, and I think it will age well. I'd kill for three 30+ floor buildings right next to eachother downtown, each built with the exact three styles we can see right here.

There is an obvious spot for a restaurant on the northeast side (leftmost side in that picture), but I'm curious to see what other street-level retail and commercial space would go in there.

On that note, I'm starting to get curious why we haven't seen more (or really any?) rooftop spaces in these East Austin developments. I know of a couple second-floor spots (or "roof" of a much shorter building), but none on the 5-6th floors...

If these developments are largely limited by height, there's no huge risk of getting blocked, and it would seem to be a great view of DT that would only get better over time. I have a hard time imagining that a restaurant or especially a bar wouldn't do well there.

East Austin’s Historic Downs Field Celebrates a Preservation Milestone

https://austin.towers.net/east-austi...ion-milestone/

After nearly 100 years of baseball at the site and more than 17 years since nearby residents of Rosewood began advocating for its preservation, a decade-long process of renovation at East Austin’s historic Downs Mabson Field celebrates its latest milestone this week. The City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting at the ballpark at 2816 East 12th Street on Friday, June 10 at 11:30 a.m., marking the restoration of the field’s grandstands, which have received several historically-compliant upgrades including a new roof and structural renovations.

when do we think Austin will ever get out of its death spiral and allow buildings higher than 5 cm on the east side?

When we start caring more about tax base & transit supportive density than NIMBY "be afraid" talking points.

This is such a quality project. Amazing materials, beautiful windows, all around a really solid addition to the east side.
