If I could guess, the developer is trying to lock in financing and/or collecting construction bids. That seems to be what's happening with nearly all projects that have planning approval, but don't have shovels in the ground. Unfortunately, both the financing and construction side of things is getting more challenging. I honestly wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if more than one big project stalls out because of it.

Just wanted to chime in and say I read the Idaho Statesman article and it says Ludwig "retains a three-year option to develop the property sold to LocalConstruct’s company" which probably explains why development could still *possibly* move forward. Fingers crossed.

Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

Treasure Valley housing crisis: 19,050 more homes needed by 2021

Demand for a home to buy or a place to rent is dramatically outstripping inventory, pushing prices up.

The Boise City Metropolitan Statistical Area - which includes Ada, Canyon, Gem, Boise, and Owyhee counties - will need to add 4,000 new apartment units and 15,050 new single-family houses in order to keep up with expected population growth, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Do you have any secrets you want to expose?
I agree, we need a new announcement. There is a lot under construction(thanks Sawtooth for your photo updates), and in the pipeline but yes it would be nice to hear about another tower in the works.

Millennials Are Flocking To The Treasure Valley

Quote:
As millennials mature into adulthood, many are settling their families in the Treasure Valley. Idaho Matters looks at why this demographic is choosing this region over bigger, more urban markets with Our Town America franchisees Scot and Amy Hecht.

Just anecdotally, I was sitting in the lobby of my Yoga studio in SF last weekend when a group of 20 somethings suddenly began gushing over Idaho and that they all wanted to move there. One was trying to buy a house in Sandpoint, one other in McCall, and two others were commenting on how cheap Boise was and they were flying in over Labor Day to go house shopping. Secret's out!

Definitely, the secret is out. I am a member of another forum board (sports based) and one of the administrators of the board private messaged me, "Hey, you live in Idaho don't you? I've been thinking about moving there. What can you tell me about it?". Idaho is firmly planted "on the map" now.

Yeah, I work at a diesel dealership and we have hired three mechanics over the last three months from California. I've also had a few calls from guys asking how much we pay saying they want to move up here from California.

Same as you've all said, I have quite a few acquaintances and coworkers that love Idaho and are considering a move if the right job were to make itself available. I'm keeping an eye out for land near Sandpoint to build a retirement home. I think it's the perfect town - huge lake on one side for summer recreation and Schweitzer on the other for boarding all winter. My parents just moved to Boise from AZ and are loving it there (we're from CDA originally though so it's coming back to ID for them). I'm flying down next week to check out the city, I haven't been since about 2001ish.

The date on this article is current but it seem like this list has circulated before.

Construction On New Idaho Fish And Game HQ To Start Next Year

Quote:
Fish and Game’s current HQ in Boise’s East End will be demolished and replaced by a new, 70,000 square feet building with 235 parking spaces.

State officials awarded the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation the contract, which will cost up to $20 million.

The department expects to house about 170 employees in the new location, putting all of their administrative staff in the same place for the first time.

how about an old, old, old shot of downtown?

what's most interesting to me is how few trees there are in the foothills.

or how's about a new-fangled shot from a different perspective?

Thanks for the photos Sawtooth. This forum is the best place I know of on the web to see construction updates of buildings popping up in Boise.
