Convoy arrives in Ottawa to remove the Prime Minister and instead remove the CPC Leader and Chief of Police. Nice.

The weakest links break first.

I wonder if the RCMP will step in and take control of the OPS while the emergency measures are in affect?

I'd be really surprised if that happened.

There is an established succession process for when the chief resigns, dies, is fired or cannot do the job for whatever reason.

One of the deputy chiefs will likely be named interim chief within hours.

I wanted him out. But I don't think the failures are entirely his. And given that we saw cops from out of town enforce the law, while OPS didn't do much, I'd like to know how much of this is an insubordinate rank and file, taking out a chief they don't like.

I could be wrong but I believe I read something to the effect that the Emergencies Act begins the process of a Parliamentary Inquiry within 60 days of being invoked, meaning we'll get a much clearer picture of what's been going on with OPS during this entire process.

FWIW:

Sources say while Peter Sloly wanted his offcrs to intercept fuel/jerrycans - OPP Command refused to follow through on what they considered an insignificant charge that would cause administrative headache. After that OPS officers refused to intercept too.

They only had two options for interim chief - Bell or Ferguson - because Jaswal has been suspended with pay since March 2020, still waiting on hearings on allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment.

There's an interesting article on CBC detailing his failings in other areas as well:

....The former chief has been criticized over his handling of a truck convoy protest that has caused major disruptions to Ottawa's downtown core.

Sloly's resignation comes as sources tell CBC News he's been accused of bullying and volatile behaviour that has damaged relations with senior leadership and compromised the force's ability to cope with the truck protest.

Multiple sources have told CBC News that Sloly allegedly belittled and berated senior Ottawa Police Service officers in front of their colleagues, and has failed to put forward a solid operations plan to end the crisis....

When did Ottawa become the dumping ground for all the poor cops in the country?

So I guess asking people to do their job is now "bullying and volatile behaviour". At least in police circles.

Think the most revealing moment of the entire process was when I realized that Sloly was no.2 under Blair during the G20 protests and subsequent settlements with protestors.

It's possible that both are true whilst separate.

Yup, what farce. So many such cases in the Ottawa Police, all suspended with pay (aka rewarding bad behaviour with vacation).

There was a story in the newspaper the other day about a cop who was suspended for, oh about a year with pay, for being a wife beater. (we can assume based on the news article) He got off with a $500 "Peace Bond" that asks nicely that he don't drink or beat his girlfriend for a year.

Iam sure he will---but remember, there now is an Integrated COMMAND Center,
OPS, OPP and RCMP. It will direct the troops on the ground assigned to deal with the occupiers. You can not have three generals equally in charge. To many cooks spoil the broth! I am pretty sure that, with the federal emergency measure act in hand, an RCMP officer will be The Commander In Chief and direct the combined forces on the ground, not Chief Bell who has not even officially got the job as I write.

Some stories are emerging that the OPP and RCMP have taken over.

That may be true, but I would not be surprised if the RCMP and OPP take-over from the OPS. I little easier to do that now that most trucks now on Wellington. Don't forget they already setup the integrated command centre.
