Since the Pingan International Finance Centre in Shenzhen might not get built to full height, Extell should buy this plan from KPF and rework it to fit the lot on 225W 57th Street. This would look fabulous in the New York skyline.

I was thinking the same thing -- the design is too good not to wind up somewhere -- except I think it belongs Downtown, among Woolworth, 70 Pine and the rest.

Personally, I'm hoping for the Miglin-Beitner skyneedle

Square footage and footprint would be just about right for this proposal

Pingan is perfect, and would be fantastic Downtown; I'd love to see One World Trade Center & its twiggy antenna cower in the presence of a true 2,000' tower.

Also, the Skyneedle is beyond heinous. Wow.

I think we'll see something more cutting-edge than One57, and it has been stated it won't have a spire. I still think we see an angular top, so there may be some extra height after 1,550' but it won't be significant.

Pingan has 3 times the floor area that this tower will have. Not gonna happen.

Just like what scalziand said nowhere near enough floor area, expect something in terms of size like 432.

I think the Miglin-B skyneedle provides a good massing model as its square footage is similar, at 1.36 million...

The skyneedle looks outdated though.

I don't think anyone ever said that. The developer said they weren't going to do any gimmicks to get it to the proposed height, so expect the roof to be 1550 with possibly a spire or crown or whatever on top

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill are known for making crazy designs,i hope they make the design for this building modern, but yet still kept it simple ,so it can still blend into the rest of the city,

Really? Pingan was 5 million square feet? That's absolutely huge. Burj Khalifa has only 3 million square feet. One WTC has only 2.7 million square feet.

I'm surprised, because Pingan doesn't look super-bulky.

Actually this building fits more in terms with the never built 7 South Dearborn from Chicago than anything else. Skyneedle has too wide a base so it won't fit the footprint. Pingan also has a wide base and it won't fit the footprint. The only building ever proposed in history that would fit in would be 7 South Dearborn. In fact the height of 225 West 57th Street is uncannily similar to that of 7 South Dearborn. Here are the statistics.

Here is a picture of 7 South Dearborn.

Onservations on the 7SD render:

Even though I see three spires, they're obviously interconnected with a latticework sort of arrangement. Does this officially meet anyone's official-or-otherwise definiton of a crown?
If so, I wonder if the architects might apply this kind of logic if they do go for a crown.

The tower has a pretty decent footprint, most of it for the Nordstrom at the base.

The Broadway spur would be a wing of the store, with the preserved facade...

CTBUH has 4.2 million square feet, wiki has 5.1 million square feet(unreferenced) for Pingan. I was thinking that 225 will have 1.2-1.5 million square feet.

Pingan is huge.

BTW, I had a terrible dream last night. The design for 225w57 was revealed, and it was just another box like 432park.

EDIT:the wiki figure seems to include the basement area.

Lol, that would be a nightmare for sure. But I'm positive we will get a fine design here, which suits New York. Hopefully nothing too organic and modern because those tend to become outdated very soon. Something elegant and classy, with a few setbacks would be perfect. And maybe 4WTC's cladding.
