This what we should have , and give a breath for chrysler building.
Were this a residential tower, like those on 57th street, you could get something like that. But the office floors have to be marketed, and you need more space for the cores, even for the hotel portion of the building. That’s why I say appreciate the slenders where you can get them. Most buildings won’t get built that way. We wouldn’t see buildings like the Chrysler or Woolworth built today at their scale.

It's not likely to happen, but everytime I look at the base and the stairs, I want some type of feature worked in to give it a more permanent feel, fitting in more like the surrounding buildings (eagles, gargoyles, etc).

Even hanging up in the lobby overlooking it all would be great.

If I understand correctly, the diagrams are from months ago, and the architect stated at that time that the height was still being finalised. So the diagrams showing 1486' aren't final, or even necessarily up to date.

Yes, pretty much. My guess is it'll end up somewhere in between like the renderings.

I’ve said it, the developers have said it. I don’t see why anyone could be confused about that diagram being final. They’re seeking approval fir a 1,646 ft building. That can change, but until it does, it hasn’t. ULURP should begin by the beginning of next month (there’s a lot on the plate at CP). When it does, we’ll see more. Whether the floor heights are finalized by then remains to be seen.

One of the things I love about this development, and others in the area, is the direct connection to transit, as well as the improvements to the transit connections. New York is really known for it's transit and density, and I don't understand how people who don't like that density choose to live in the middle of it.

But there are many youtube videos of Grand Central, and I like this one that begins at the 42nd Street entrance that will be expanded to include a new transit hall, and even works it's way down to the subway mezzanine while winding its way through the main terminal. You get a sense of how important these upgrades will be, and why this is an important development, regardless of whatever tower rises above...

This is another good one, it begins at the entrance from the MetLife escalators (at about 7 min in, you get to the transit hall area)...

NYC is insane. This will be the best building to occupy that prime location in between Grand Central and the Chrysler. Even the original Commodore Hotel, before Trump recladded it in black glass, wasn't that attractive IMO. And this is coming from a preservationist.

I noticed that the thread has never changed therefore i am still optimistic keeping the height at 1646ft .

Hopefully, maybe this one will become the first megatall skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.

Not sure why that would happen since they've been pretty clear it will likely now be in the ~1500 range (not finalized but recent press and renderings have told us this).

While I don't mind the fact that CPT will beat this by roof, I'm bothered that we have to wait the whole decade for a building that isn't going to be anything new height-wise. I'm also concerned about potential sites for a 500 meter building. Realistically how many remain in NYC?
