I feel like this and the Green Lantern redevelopment thread should be combined since they are being built simultaneously?

Done.

For the purposes of height/floor count I went with the Barrington Street numbers since this will be the main entrance to both buildings.

Thanks DJ.

Have there been any new renderings for 1595 Barrington? The only one I recall is a low-quality image that was posted at The Coast magazine.

Would like to see more detail on the project and I am really curious how the back of the buildings will look now that they are building them together.

Not much available on this project, here is the proposal of the old Zellers building, but doesnt show how it will be connected with the Green Lantern. Does show different angles though. All in all this is a nice proposal for Barrington St, which seems to be slowly crawling back to life.

Thanks for that. It does give me a much better idea of what their plans are, and I agree it looks good (gives me a better impression than that rendering in The Coast).

Hopefully it will be updated soon as that document is from 2011.

I hadn't realised what exactly they were doing around the foundation of the Green Lantern until this week. They are extending it down further into the bedrock to line up the new basement levels.

Barrington Street is just getting better and better. Stoked for this one to start rising up.

I agree, the area has greatly improved since 2008 - in addition to all the brand new buildings, the exterior of many of the old historic ones have been spruced up too. It is encouraging and exciting to witness the changes in the downtown.

Absolutely. No city will change overnight but the past 5 years of downtown Halifax is as close as it gets.

I was in Montreal for a meeting last week, and was amazed at how much that city has been changing in the last 5 years as well. Like Halifax it previously felt like a downtown that was under-invested in. Between crumbling public infrastructure and a high percentage of '70s concrete behemoths, Montreal had that feeling of a city in need of reinvestment. This time though I was pleasantly surprised to see the improvements going on, tons of cranes in the sky, the autoroute being torn down and rebuilt, etc. A big change from 5 years ago!

A lot of the reason Montreal was frozen in stasis for years was the ongoing political turmoil and threat of separatism with the resultant fleeing of business head offices to Ontario and points west. A real shame but self-inflicted. That seems finally to be going away.
