WOOHOOOOOO ::It's Happening GIF::

When do we suspect the taller slanty one will break ground? I don't recall the name but love love love the design. Always reminded me of something in rural Germany.

I don't remember if this was posted or not. FAA permit for Broadmoor Block A - 196 feet.

Work Schedule: 08/24/2021 to 06/23/2023

https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external...85949219&row=5

The height I had for it from the elevations was 188 feet.

It's really good news to see this finally coming to fruition. Now Austin has a chance to show us what good TODs can be - places that are great to live in, shop in, and be entertained in. This is definitely a step in the right direction. who could have ever imagined 30 years ago that N Austin would become THIS. Someday we might have an NHL team or an MLB team join Austin FC out here!

Does anyone have an update on the site prep for Block A? A tower crane license permit was filed yesterday.

The location is dug out, they appear to be done with that work (no heavy equipment around). It is a big hole (~one floor deep), with one dirt ramp in the center.

Here's Brandywine's latest financial/projects report. They have resumed with the Uptown ATX branding.

I hope so. I like the idea of referring to the Domain/Broadmoor/North Burnet Gateway/Stadium District as "Uptown".

I think its earned it now that its adding respectable height and density. It also fits, north = up.

It can also mean high, as in Charlotte’s CBD being on a hill and called uptown. There is no downtown in Charlotte.

This area being uptown also gives credence to the burgeoning midtown region between the two (with various nodes).

What then would be south’s equivalent? A “Southtown”?

Lowtown, Lowertown, Undertown?

Downtown San Antonio?

dunno, at least it seems like Austin may never have to find out. I don't think there's an equivalent node for density possible anytime soon. Imagine Austin shows a "regional center" dot at the I35/45SE intersection, but I haven't heard of anything really developing there (and if it ever does, it'll probably be more of a Highland than a Uptown or Robinson Ranch).

I like the Uptown term (as mentioned, it contrasts well to downtown), but if that marketing sticks it means we'll have gone from one ambiguity to another. A bunch of people use "Domain" to mean the overall region, not just the 300 acres of planned development (e.g. the stadium at the "Domain"). Now when people say "Uptown" do they mean the region, or Brandywine's 60 acres of it.

Accurate! All of these districts combined should be Uptown

very clever naming now that i think of it. the area now is referred to as the domain or "domain area"

by naming their development "uptown atx" i think they are betting on the whole area being referred to as "uptown" and brandywine will own/operate THE uptown district while the established, larger development (the domain, owned/operated by simon properties iirc) will be referred to as IN uptown

and you know what? i think it will work

I like it and I think it could work. I'd bet that many folks will still call it Domain for years to come only because people have been saying that since the mid-2000s when the mall was first built. It's caught on and habits are difficult to break.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna go down to walk around Town Lake.

That's is so fetch.
Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen.
It's not going to happen.

How about instead of trying to force contrived names on areas, we just let it happen naturally over time? Not every city has to have an uptown or a downtown or a midtown or a museum district or this or that. Just let the names evolve organically on their own. Then they'll be unique to Austin instead of copies from other cities (namely New York where uptown downtown midtown come from because that's how the Manhattan is laid out).
