Thyssenkrupp North American HQ - Suntrust Park

Thyssenkrupp North American HQ - Suntrust Park

I am dumbfounded why people have a problem with this. Frankly I don't care if it is a 420 foot mattress factory store, this looks amazing. As I have said before, the more developments like this that come to Cobb the quicker they will embrace MARTA. So stop with the negativity - this is a trophy project.

Quote:
German industrial conglomerate Thyssenkrupp will have its elevator division building the tallest such lift in Cobb County as it moves forward on an estimated $240 million facility inside The Battery Atlanta near SunTrust Park.

One of the world’s largest elevator companies, Thyssenkrupp officials along with representatives of the BRED Co LLC, the Braves's real estate development arm, announced Thursday morning the German company’s plans to build a new North American headquarters on a 4.8-acre property adjacent to and north of Interstate 285 and on the south side of Circle 75 Parkway. The land is owned by BRED.

Upon completion, which is anticipated in the first quarter of 2022, the Elevator Americas Complex, as it has been named, will include three facilities anchored by a 420-foot-tall elevator qualification and test tower, the tallest of its kind in the country and one of the tallest in the world.
Quote:
The Elevator Americas Complex, when completed, is expected to house more than 900 full-time employees, or about 6 percent of Thyssenkrupp Elevator Americas’ total workforce across North America.

Totally agree with you, since when is everyone on here an architect?

I have my own issues with Cobb, but this is super cool! Especially since the testing elevators will be facing Suntrust Park. More high-quality jobs coming to the metro.

I've been a frequent critic over the years of Texas donuts, synthetic stucco, lame attempts to make the suburb seem livable, and woefully uninspiring architecture. And I absolutely applaud this tower and the direction Cobb is moving in here (Comcast and the Battery included). Of course the Braves move was a total taxpayer boondoggle, but this and the potential for a transit referendum in the next few years are literally the first things I've seen that have given me hope in Cobb county since I moved there in 1985 (I left as soon as I turned 18).

I just feel sorry for the workers in Alpharetta that will have to either commute to Cobb or move. But yes, this is a strange but good project. Engineering/tech jobs and lots of nice new payroll infused into the metro. Just wonder what happens to the thing if Thyssenkrupp goes out of business, sells out or decides to move somewhere else. Doubtful but these days, who knows. The special events lounge on the top two floors does look inviting but no outdoor space on top, work on that Thyssenkrupp.

i'm a little worried about that concrete wall on one side, but then again not really. i'm all for it - i think the galleria area needs a little pumping up on the skyline front especially w/the ballpark there - and the more density gets added, the more that county will realize the need for transit.

Was over there yesterday. It's only just now coming out of the ground - you can only really some concrete pillars sticking up for the first or second floors.

Just west of the pedestrian bridge that crosses 285. Position can be seen in the images several posts above.

Since this is basically an elevator shaft, I thought it would be a core going up first, (IBM TOWER) someone please enlighten us about the process, looks like it has actual floors???

Yes, it's 2 buildings. But also, even the elevator test building... I would think it at least needs to have floor elements, since elevators visit floors and to test that, it needs to act like an actual skyscraper.
