For now, but the end game is to create a vibrant urban neighbourhood, no? Greenspace notwithstanding, the "peaceful, quiet, tranquility" part is temporary.

The additional residents will add some life to the area (which is definitely something that's missing at the moment). I don't think that the increased population will have a significant impact on the tranquility though. I foresee it feeling like a quiet, calm neighbourhood in the evenings, and a playful, energetic space mid-day.

It reminds me of when I used to live near the river on just outside the Westboro area - with activity and people enjoying the park space throughout the day, and a peaceful calm throughout the area come dusk.

Time will tell. We'll see what type of retail is developed to attract a broader audience. Perhaps the West block of the Flats will carry a more significant weight to increase the village feel.

It's going to be 40%, according to the NCC, which is way too much, according to me. Anyone who values grass that much should move to the country.

lol 40% does seem like quite a bit. We'll have to wait to see how it all looks to really judge it though. If anyone can change the NCC's mind, its...err...nobody...

I've gotta say, I thought this building looked bad with the yellow/teal colour contrast and lack of any architectural detail, but having that 2nd tower added makes it look like it's made out of lego...

I love lego, but I haven't built anything with it since I was 10. Thankfully the NCC's bidding process and input in building design ensure all federally owned lands will be developed as if I designed them myself when I was 10 playing with lego!

If they played a more hands off approach, maybe some of Ottawa's better developers and architects would have had a chance here.

I've been thinking.

I wonder if the greenspace created on the rooftops counts towards the 40% greenspace goal.

Page 10 of this thread demonstrates the site plan.

The entire flats is hopeful for future development. With the next phase of Claridge's project scheduled to begin sales this Fall.

This is the Claridge Portion of the plan:

That'll be a LOT better than the brownfeilds that are there now! Even if it's teal clad buildings everywhere! Well, I might have to draw the line at the Teal Cladding everywhere...lol!

Architects? I'm not sure if the NCC knows what that is. I think it might be time you had "that talk" with them.

Would any of you know in which phase/block of this development the commercial/retail will be built? I agree with most of the posters here; there desperately needs to be a grocery store or something closer by than there currently is. Although, clearly retail requires some density first...

Good question.. you can see some of the commercial space in this pdf along Booth in some of the future Claridge phases. However the various plans on the NCC's site are not the most up to date ones out there, so things may not be exactly like this.

Phase 3 rezoning approved by Council

From the pic below, Phase 3 will be right in front of the existing building, along the rounded corner by the stream.
