I don't think Green will be out of work long. He's a good coach and definitely wasn't the problem in Vancouver.

Dim Jim finally gets the boot in Vancouver! About 8 years too late!

Imagine wasting away your life as a sports fan with someone like that in charge. I almost feel sorry for Logan and Density!

Heard the suggestion, made mostly in jest, today that the Sedins are going to be the next GM

A three game slide for the Oil... and a good test of their character and locker room. We needed this and better mid-Dec than mid-march.

Could be six in another week and they could very well be out of a playoff spot by the end of December.

In the last week they got outplayed by Pittsburgh (34-22 shots) and won because Jarry was terrible in net. They then got outplayed in the second period and lost a close one to Seattle. Then they played absolute garbage against Los Angeles and lost. They played much better last night, but ran in to Talbot who stopped pretty much everything and Koskinen looked bad.

They get Boston, Carolina, Toronto and Columbus at home now. A good chance to prove they are a better team than last year, or just more of the same.

Indeed. Time to do a team gut check and see what they are really made of.

On a side note, for Oiler Jujhar Khaira experienced quite a scary hit last night and was taken off on a stretcher. He has been released but I wonder if this might lead to his eventual retirement due to previous head/concussion injuries.

I'm continually blown away by the valuations of teams in recent years across sport.

^ that's the annual Forbes throw a dart at the board list.

I don't think it's really that accurate, and if it is, True North more than tripled their investment with the Jets over 10 years. Not bad.

But wow, they gave Edmonton a big McDavid jump.

Ya at those prices I would rather buy Vancouver than Edmonton and not just because of homerism.

Calgary is the real steal there.

Katz bought the Oilers for just over $200mil CDN or 170mil USD.

Considering the value of the Oilers franchise and his role in it, doesn't McDavid seem grossly underpaid at $12.5 million a season?

The entire NHL players roster is underpaid considering those valuations !

Salary Caps need to increase big time in light of these valuations, which in turn are estimates based on team revenues. The NHLPA is getting shafted here…

Didn’t take long for Seattle (13) to pass Vancouver (14)…

Edmonton was always undervalued. Explaining the huge increase this year. Calgary is lagging due to the Saddledome. A new arena would instantly boost the teams value to around where Edmonton is.

NY, Toronto and Montreal are untouchable in the top 3. The Rangers are the first team to pass a $2 billion valuation.

The term "franchise player" doesn't exist for nothing.

Franchise player should include a percentage. Do they do that in sports?

I think the franchise values are estimated based on future value of new TV contracts and expected league revenue increases. There is no way these values went up based on recent league revenue. The salary cap is based on prior year revenue, which was shit with zero to very few fans in attendance for most of the shortened season.

Oilers are actually 7th. Katz is a happy man (assuming his health is good)
