Oh A sigh of relief lol, I would have been soo upset that a prime piece of CBD space would go towards building a FORD dealership lol. I am still a little salty that we have a basic Mercedes Benz van dealership on Poydras St in such a prime location as well.

Any ideas on what’s planned for the former Ford dealership parcel?

looking at the new owner's portfolio, doesn't seem like the riverwalk will be getting any nicer:

Yeah doesnt seem to fit their portfolio either, but it seems like the new owners might care a bit more about it. I just want the buildings around spanish plaza to end up with something attractive as tenants.

The Riverwalk is as failure and should be torn down IMO. Its such a waste of the most prime location in the city.

Completely agree. I feel something similar to Harbor Walk in Destin with shops, bars & restaurants, being open to the river with condos on top, would be a lot better and increase foot traffic. Or maybe this wouldn't work I have no clue, but still find it an interesting option.

Riverwalk is 85% leased, which is really good for a mall in this day and age. They do a huge amount of business with the cruise customers, and there are numerous name brand stores there including the anchor tenant Nordstrom. Neiman Marcus closed due to external factors (nearly all Last Call stores were closed nationwide in 2020). Once the new ferry terminal construction is done, the promenade from the Moonwalk to Riverwalk should be continuous. That will really help fill the restaurant spaces around Spanish Plaza.

If anything utilizing the space above the river walk itself
Ames sense… people seem to forget the port still
Actively uses the area under most of the river walk for maritime activities. So it won’t be used for anything below the elevated portion of the mall
Anytime soon

[QUOTE=tennis1400;9651623]Charity Hospital Construction Fencing Signage going up today

I have high hopes the Charity project will transform this part of downtown, and beyond. When Tulane invests, they go all in.
--New downtown gym just opened last week.
--1315 apartments, new restaurant that will go in it and Tulane Innovation Institute (i saw DDD post that the grand opening was today; will relocate to Charity when it opens). While Charity is redeveloped I think they also will be beautifying the blocks around it? Landscaping, streets + neutral grounds. Hopefully it'll blend in with the district across Claiborne and really unite that area.

Now that I think of it, makes sense the repaving of Claiborne, the lower elevated street level, b/c it bisects Tulane. And, Tulane on the other end w/ Chick-Fil-A and they just repaved that whole intersection at Carrollton. Now I really wanna know what that big plot of land on Tulane Ave will be. My gut says a grocery store but IDK??

Another development to look out for the Riverwalk is the potential Omni hotel on the whale lot next to the convention center. If a hotel is built there, it would be great to have a street level entrance to the mall incorporated into the hotel.

The whale mural lot on convention center blvd should be considered for a new pelicans stadium. I appreciate the traffic implications but it would be a great spot for a stadium.

That French Quarter backlot looks pretty neat! I'm so glad New Orleans is expanding this kind of business.

Seems like the River District NOLA website has started adding a few things to the site.
