So many power centres and such would actually be nice if they'd just stick a few floors of office and residential on top of the retail...

Stoney Creek's oldest strip mall, the Stoney Creek Shopping Plaza, is getting a renovation...

It's technically not a part of Fiesta Mall, but it's right next door and it doesn't need it's own thread so photo updates about it can be posted here.

Hamilton Community News: Stoney Creek Shopping Plaza’s Extreme Makeover Approaching Completion

source

By Laura Lennie | April 30, 2018

“It’s coming along well,” says CBRE Limited Retail Advisory Group sales associate Adam Occhipinti, who represents the plaza’s owner, Queenston Gray Management Group Inc. “We’ll probably be completed our construction within the next month, maybe two max.”

The 140-146 Highway 8 location’s transformation, which began last May, entails a new façade, roof, HVAC and electrical system, asphalt parking lot, pylon sign and interior work.

The plaza will feature 10 to 13 units ranging in size from 1,150 to 13,300 square feet, including a few that wrap around the corner of Highway 8 and Gray Road.

One unit on the corner will have an opportunity for a patio space, with exposure on both Highway 8 and Gray Road. There also will be a couple of units, smaller ones, fronting Gray.

The plaza still will be home to a CIBC.

Occhipinti said the location has landed a new anchor tenant and locked in a few others, but is still working on finalizing two more leases.

“We’d rather announce all of them at once, in one big swoop,” he said, adding he’s been asked by the landlord not to reveal any further details at this time. “My hope is that we’ll be able to make the announcement within the next month.”

Fiesta Mall has more in store for consumers

Construction underway on new retail area

By Laura Lennie | May 25, 2018

Fiesta Mall owner representatives say the plaza is expanding to further improve the shopping experience for consumers.

Choice Properties REIT investor relations vice-president Kim Lee said the mall is getting about 4,500 square feet of additional retail area at its 102 Highway 8 location. Construction got underway on the new retail space at the plaza’s west side in April, with tenant openings anticipated for the end of this year and early next year.

“At this time, I can’t share who we are expecting to fill the space,” Lee said, adding that tenants determine their announcements and opening dates. “Certainly, our focus is to offer consumers a convenient shopping experience with potential tenants that complement our existing roster.”

Fiesta Mall grew to include Booster Juice, Pet Valu, Easyfinancial, Sport Clips Haircuts, Stoney Creek Dental clinic, Fat Bastard Burrito Co., The House of Beauty Salon and Spa, and Vision Clinic over the past two years, after the plaza’s anchor grocery store, Fortinos, received a new and larger building in 2014. The mall also saw the renovation of its Rexall Drugstore and welcomed a new Dollarama and Fit4Less.

Lee said Fiesta Mall’s redevelopment is all about better serving the community.

Choice Properties’ merchandising strategy for its shopping centres is focused on offering consumers convenience with complementary shops and services, she said.

“We anticipate the right mix will provide customers and retail tenants a shopping experience that promotes traffic and repeat visits,” Lee said. “We believe investing in our properties is important to maintaining the quality of our sites and helps to address evolving trends in the marketplace."

Here's the new site plan, Starbucks and Freshii will be moving into two of the new units...
