I believe removing the parking lanes on Dewdney could be disastrous.
They're not removing the parking lanes according to the concept plans shown in the article. They'll be transit lanes during the day and parking during off-peak hours.
Until they build a lot of residential in that area who is going to walk there? I've seen in both Regina and Saskatoon how important on-street parking is to storefront businesses. Maybe one day the individual car will be obsolete but we are nowhere near there yet. Who is going to risk setting up a business on Dewdney if there's no parking during the day.
The area is in desperate need of converting to a walkable area. Additionally, it's a bar area and we need less driving there.
I loved the news report by CTV. They're talking about making it more walk-able and less like a speedway while in the background, people are running across Dewdney trying to avoid speeding traffic.

Also thought that was funny, yet so to the point of the current issue regarding how unwalkable the strip is currently.
Anyone had a chance to review the Yards neighbourhood plan? Personally, I'm very impressed with the planned density and neighbourhood layout. This could be a massive step forward for Regina

I read through and I'm also impressed with how the city is trying to steer the direction of this area. I'm just thinking that with the current state of the economy it will take forever to materialize. I also hope that the city continues to take a lead on this and that they learned some valuable lessons from City Square Plaza. I hope they take that 30+ million in funding and get the ball rolling with infrastructure to revamp Dewdney sooner than later. I'm sure that everyone will complain about traffic delays though if that happens.
lol I noticed that the pdf is labelled Coopertown. Someone at the city must have re-used an existing draft document.
Looks good. I won't hold my breath that it will end up this way (look at the original ideas for Harbour Landing vs what we got), but I hope they try and keep it to plan.

Was thinking that using the same developers or atleast using same framework of design used in the Canterbury project off College and Broad Street in Regina would be a nice continuation of the brick and warehouse feel when the Railyard development happens.
Would love buildings like this right on Dewdney...
The St. Chad’s team would be great to include in the redevelopment of the Railyards.

I totally agree. It's mainly Fiorante I believe and they've done a great job. Those buildings will age well. My only complaint is they cheaped out with white stucco on the backside of the main Condo buildings on Badham. I hope we eventually see something like this on Dewdney and not more crap like the Four Points motel.

Sorry for replying that way, duplicating all the pics!
